USC Hillel is committed to creating a Jewish space that welcomes all students, regardless of religious observance. Realizing that not all students were connecting with a traditional Shabbat service, Leila Kashfi, class of 2020, partnered with USC Hillels Rabbi Ashley to create Opinion Minyan. Opinion Minyan invites Jewish Trojans to welcome in Shabbat through non-traditional ways such as stories, art, poetry, and discussions surrounding current events. The idea of joining a community to celebrate Shabbat with has always sounded attractive to me, but I dont know Hebrew and its difficult for me to connect to the prayers. Opinion Minyan has allowed me to expand my Jewish network while observing Shabbat in a way that I feel comfortable, explains Julian Wolff, a new student at USC. USC Hillel is proud to provide the Jewish Trojan Family a place for deep and spiritually meaningful worship, traditional or non-traditional. You can help us keep services and meals free for students by donating during USC Hillels 8 Days of Giving, happening now! |
