Whispering Pines Elementary Teacher Named PBCSD's Teacher of the Week

The shock on Kathryn Vecchio's face was evident as representatives from the School District of Palm Beach County, ValuTeachers and Principal Barbara Riemer surprised her in her classroom at Whispering Pines Elementary School on Thursday. The prize patrol was on hand to deliver that news that she had been selected as the District's Teacher of the Week.

A 5th grade teacher at Whispering Pines, Ms. Vecchio was nominated for the Teacher of the Week award for a very special reason. When one of her students was unable to afford the cost of a field trip to the Kennedy Space Center, she covered the cost of the student's trip out of her own pocket, believing in the importance of making sure all of her students had access to meaningful educational experiences.
