The team has been busy the entire season, responding throughout the City & County as extreme weather has battered California and the Bay.

San Jose Fire Fighter joins the San Diego Fire Department in first ever Girls Empowerment Camp 

The all-day training camp hosted by the San Diego Fire Department taught girls life-saving skills in an effort to show young girls that a career as a firefighter, paramedic or lifeguard is very possible.

Female firefighters from San Jose and across California lead the activities with safety in mind. The girls learned about firefighting skills, equipment, basic first aid, and CPR. (video)

  SIGNIFICANT SAN JOSE FIRE INCIDENTS

Suncrest Ct.        
Station 19     SJ District 4
Call reporting an odor of natural gas in the area.  The first arriving fire unit reported a ruptured gas line that blew part of the asphalt up and requested the balance of a Structure Response and the HIT unit.  SJPD was requested to assist with traffic control, PG&E to assist with securing the gas line and Public Works to assess the damage to the road.  The residents in the area were advised to shelter in place. The gas line was secured after 2 hours.  No injuries were reported.

Station 2      SJ District 5
Fire Communications sent a Full First alarm assignment to a report of a "house catching on fire".  Upon arrival it was determined to be an attic fire in a detached 1 bedroom apartment behind the main structure.  The fire was placed under control after 1 hour.

3.6.17 Vine St        Station 3       SJ District 3
Multiple calls were received reporting a detached garage on fire.  A full first alarm assignment was dispatched.  The garage was found to be fully involved and the adjacent garage was impinged upon by fire.  The fire was placed under control after 2 hours. 

3.8.17 Felipe Ave    Station 16     SJ District 7
Multiple calls reporting a house with black smoke coming from it and people trying to get their belongings out of the structure.  A Full First was dispatched and a two precautionary ambulance were requested. The first arriving fire unit reported an abandoned home with flames coming from the side of the structure.  A 2 nd Alarm was requested then cancelled within 15 minutes.  The fire was under control after 30 minutes. SJPD was requested for traffic control, PG&E to secure the utilities and Board Up to secure the structure.  

3.12.17 Higate Dr    Station 16    SJ District 16
Full 1 st response after receiving multiple reports of a house on fire. The first arriving unit reported smoke and flames from the Bravo side of the structure. No injuries were reported. PG&E was requested to assist with securing utilities. The fire was placed under control after 1 hour. All appropriate notifications were made.

HIGH RISE

3.14.17 N 6th  Station 1   SJ District 3
Communications received a report of an oil fire in an apartment. Communications received a call from an alarm company reporting two water flow alarms on the 6
th floor. A level 1 Hi Rise was requested due to details. Engine 8 arrived on scene and reported people evacuating. A level 2 Hi Rise was requested for active water flowing. Fire was contained after 10 minutes with assistance from fire sprinkler.  A precautionary ambulance was dispatched, and three patients were treated on scene. Crews on scene worked on water evacuation. 

SECOND ALARM

3.15.17 Whitethorne Dr.    Station 4      SJ District 6
Full 1 st assignment to multiple reports of a house on fire. The first arriving unit reported a working house fire. A 2 nd Alarm was called and SJPD assisted with traffic control, PG&E assisted with securing utilities. Fire was placed under control after 1 hour. 

3.15.17 Foxworthy Ave     Station 13    SJ District 9
Communications received multiple calls of a roof on fire, possibly from fireworks. Engine 13 arrived on scene and reported light smoke from the garage. After investigating, they stated it was an exterior fire that possibly extended into the attic space. SJPD assisted with traffic control.  No injuries were reported.



RESCUE

3.5.17 N 24th St        Station 8    SJ District 3
Engine 8 was dispatched to a report of a person who fell approximately 15 feet down the embankment of the Coyote Creek near San Jose High School.  E8 requested the USAR team for a confirmed low angle rescue near the water's edge.  Two civilians were extricated by the USAR team.
