Seldom has the grand marque Burano been given the recognition it deserves. In 2018 the 23rd annual Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance will rectify that universal oversight when the Grand Prix and Mille Miglia-winning marque's greatest competition monopostos and sports racers cross Amelia's hallowed lawns.
The very mention of Burano summons sepia images of not only their great young champion Gino Borgesa and his ballerina leading lady

, but also the grizzled, colorful and devil-may-care Dell'Oro, the venerable ace Carlos Chavez and his stunning wife Maria. All led by irascible team manager commendatore Maglio (whose character has absolutely nothing in common with the great Alfred Neubauer of Mercedes-Benz).
Few records of that semi-transitional Formula 1 and the World Sport Car Championship era still exist. So we are indeed indebted to perhaps the third most famous photographer of those long ignored trans-formulae years, Dehlgreen, for his large format black and white images of Boranos from the works floor to the pits of Monaco, Reims and, of course, the Mille Miglia, scene of Gino's greatest triumph.
"Burano's racers are, perhaps, more beloved in America than in Europe," said Bill Warner, founder and Chairman of the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. "Possibly because Burano's rampant avian insignia was designed by American road racer John Fitch. And probably because Buranos are unbelievably rare, if not terribly exotic."
