Thank you all for another successful hobby night!HobbyNightRecap

There were over 75 hobbiest! Hobbies that were on display included dance, lacrosse, guitar, pearl beads, American Girl, legos, stuffed animals, baseball collections and artwork plus many more.  Thank you to retiring Heather And Kate Vaughn-Smith for running this evening for many years! They are off to the middle school next year. Thank you!  We love seeing the talents of our East School children! Thank you to the Fifth Grade Team for having pizza & water available to our hobbiest and families.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make this a successful evening!

Thank you to all who came out to enjoy Menchie's on Wednesday night to support the 5th Grade class.  The class made over $1000 to defray the cost of yearbooks, and CONGRATULATIONS to our raffle winner, Tami Keary, who received a $150 gift certificate to any Hingham Recreation program!


Pop Up Explorers! Sign up now for Tennis and Art - April 5thApr5PopUpExplorers

Date:  Wednesday, April 5, 2017
Time: 1PM - 3PM
Location: East School

Come preview two of our most exciting Spring After-School Explorers courses! Join Coach Dunlap from TGA Tennis and MS Patrice from South Shore Art Center for an hour of tennis and an hour of art. TGA brings the pop up tennis courts to East School gym and provides all the equipment making it easy for your child to learn tennis skills and play with their friends. Just remember to wear sneakers! Miss Patrice will lead a lesson on drawing birds followed by an opportunity for the children to emboss their drawing on tin. Children will take home their creation. Pop Up Explorers is limited to the first 50 children to register at  http://signup.com/go/DCNjzW.   Cost is $20 per student which your child should bring (cash or check payable to PTO) on  Wednesday April 5th . After School Explorers Courses Are Coming - April 24 - June 1stAfterSchoolExplorers

East School Explorers after school, fee-based, non-profit enrichment program is coming  April 24, 2017 - June 1, 2017. We have revamped our program based on parent feedback and partnered with fantastic organizations such as South Shore Art Center, Play-Well Teknologies, TGA Tennis and Holly Hill Farm. We will be offering traditional favorites like gardening, floor hockey and sewing as well as new opportunities with Tennis, STEM, Dance, Coding and Theater. Courses are held Monday - Thursday at East School from  3PM - 4PM and course fees range from $60 - $150. Scholarships are available. Registration packets will be distributed by  March 31, 2017 and sign up is online on a first come, first serve basis. Courses sell out so check your child's backpack for the packet and please register early. GSAA Project Leaders: Please collect unused craft paper scraps or other supplies from GSAA that could be used for future projects. Some art projects actually call for random scraps!  Please c ontact  [email protected]  if you have left over supplies so we can add them to our PTO art supply bin.

TRASH-LESS TUESDAY: Please send your student in with a trash-less lunch on Tuesdays.  Reusable lunch containers on sale at the school store.


Hingham Girls Scouts Sock Hop - March 31stGirlScoutSockHop

Please join us on March 31, 2017 for Hingham's Girl Scouts - Sock Hop.  This year is Ladies Choice.  Pick your favorite Aunt, Uncle, Grandparent or Parent for a fun filled night of dancing to 1950's music by Zeal DJ, crafts and face painting.  This event will be held at the East School cafeteria from 7pm to 9pm.  $5.00/person or $10.00/ family.

Announcing Get Smart About Art!GSAADescription

Throughout the winter and spring, your child will participate in GET SMART ABOUT ART: a series of in-class, parent led workshops in which a particular artist and corresponding art style is introduced and a follow up art project is completed. Your grade level coordinators organize the workshops and each session includes a parent volunteer presenter and several parent volunteer art project assistants. Runs January - June with a culminating Art Show & Film Festival June 7, 2017 at 5:30PM. We need over 40 volunteers per grade (including those of you who love to present) to make these workshops a success so please be on the lookout for an email from your grade level liaisons closer to your grade's start date.

Short Term Job Opportunity: East School After School Explorers Monitor ExplorerMonitor

The PTO is seeking a responsible and dependable adult to monitor our After School Explorers Program from 
3PM to 4:15PM every Monday - Thursday beginning April 24, 2017 and ending on Thursday June 1, 2017. R esponsibilities include helping Explorers instructors with attendance and most importantly, managing the parent pick up loop at the front of East School until all children participating in Explorers are picked up. Applicant must be East School CORI'd and be available for all 24 days of the program unless worked out in advance with the PTO. Unfortunately, given the importance of safety in the pick up loop, younger siblings or children not participating in the Explorers program may not accompany the Monitor. Pay is $350 for the six week program.

Kids In Action Before and After School Registration

Kids In Action Before and After School grades K-2,  will be holding registration for the 2017/2018 school year from  April 10 to  April 14. Registration will be held at South School from  4:00 - 6:00. Please enter South through the Kids In Action door, located by the playground.  Registration forms are available on line or at the event. A $25.00 registration fee (checks only)  is required to secure a spot. registrations after  April 14th  by mail only, sent to 220 Central Street.


SNAP  Events and Programs

Hingham-Tennoji Exchange concludes with two exciting public events on Saturday, April 1st

First, experience the incredible talent and incomparable passion of Japanese baseball when our own HHS team plays host to the Tennoji team on the HHS varsity field. The first pitch is at  2 PM. Later that night, please join us in the HHS auditorium to bid a fond farewell to our guests.  The closing ceremony at  7 PM will include the screening of the documentary film ("Kokoyakyu: High School Baseball") that helped to inspire the exchange when it aired nationwide on PBS. A reception will follow. Both events are free, open to the public, and suitable for all ages!


Solar Hingham Program Brings Solar to Local Rooftops - April 5th 

Imagine using the power of the sun to power your home while reducing the uncertainty about utility bills and rate increases. Now imagine getting all this and getting the good feeling knowing you are helping the environment and the local community too.  From  April 5, 2017 through July 17, 2017, Solar Hingham and Direct Energy Solar will host information sessions, community meetings, solar home tours and other educational opportunities for those who want to learn more about solar energy. The first community meeting will be on  April 5, 2017 in Hingham High School, room 103, 7:00-8:30 pm. Chess Beginner Instructional Meetings at Hingham Public Library

The Hingham Chess Club is thrilled to establish a formal partnership with the Hingham Public Library!  We are now able to offer Beginner Instructional Meetings on Saturdays and Advanced Instructional Meetings on Thursdays.  (A $10 contribution is requested for instructional meetings).  Following each meeting is open match play which is free and open to all skill levels and ages.  For the Spring 2017 schedule and an explanation of the two levels, please follow the Hingham Chess Club's Facebook at hhttps://www.facebook.com/Hingham-Chess-Club-1975260229371212/.

H ingham's Annual Town Meeting is Monday April 24, 2017 

Open Town Meeting is Hingham's legislature and Town Moderator Michael Puzo encourages  each voter to take part with voice and vote.  Your elected officials and appointed volunteer committees have been working all year thru meetings and hearings to prepare for this important night.  Open   Town  Meeting is held in the gym at Hingham High School and begins promptly at 7PM. Please watch your mail in the coming weeks for the Town Meeting Warrant - a booklet which  includes a meeting agenda and a list of Articles the town will vote on such as the School Budget and Foster Elementary School Feasibility Study. Book your babysitters now and come participate in your Annual Town Meeting.
