HIGHLAND FIELD TRIP: On Thursday, March 23, Mr. Vinton Bruton's Humanities students toured Highland (formerly Ashlawn), one of James Monroe's homes.  Juniors Ryan Amer, Spencer Cadieux, Jack Cline, Ty Ewen, Franck Germain, Juan Mareco, Connor Modd, Rhys Rodriguez, Alex Tembo and Katiso Tlelima enjoyed touring this residence of our fifth President. The students had clearly done some research as they impressed the docent with their responses to her questions.  They also posed some excellent questions themselves. The highlight of the tour was the opportunity to listen to President Monroe (performed by Dennis Bigelow),   who stayed in character as he answered our students' questions. The boys were treated to lunch at the historic Michie Tavern before returning for their 4th period class.

MACBETH: Covenant School's Drama Director Jerry King brought several actors to Blue Ridge today. The group performed a compressed version of Macbeth, which the students had written and directed using physical theater,
a type of theatrical performance that encompasses storytelling primarily through  physical  movement.

SATURDAY PROGRAM: On Saturday, March 18, Jill Kalinski, mother of Sam (2013) and vice chair of the Board of Trustees, was our guest presenter. She had recently returned from a mission trip to Greece where she worked with refugees, mainly from Syria. The program consisted of three parts. Mrs. Kalinski shared some of her experiences before everyone met in small groups to discuss possible solutions to some of the dilemmas she had introduced. Finally, all reconvened in the auditorium to share their thoughts.
