March Events Recap

This year's fourth annual United Way of Tompkins County (UWTC) Fat Tuesday fundraiser was a complete success! With support from the silent auction, DixieKats, celebrity bartenders, and the community together we raised over $3,000 that will go towards our Community Campaign and supporting needed local services!

On Friday, March 3rd  from 6AM-6PM WHCU Morning Newswatch host Lee Rayburn once again took over the radio station and offered a different restaurant and wine pairing every hour to listeners with the highest bid. All the proceeds went directly to the United Way of Tompkins County. Each restaurant donated a $200 gift certificate and each winery donated a case of wine or craft beer. The auction raised $5,030.00 and has raised over $16,000.00 in the past three years. A special shoutout to Six Mile Creek Vineyard for a cash contribution matching the days final bid!

Thank you to all of the participating restaurants, wineries, and breweries!

T Merrell Shipherd Flexible Fund

This fund was established to honor T. Merrell Shipherd, former Director of United Way of Tompkins County, who, throughout his life, worked to bring people together to find effective solutions to community challenges.

The T. Merrell Shipherd Flexible Fund provides financial support to effective programming and services that address current, new or emerging needs in the community. Funding will also support efforts to improve organizational efficiency and collaborations such as mergers and service delivery joint ventures. Funding will be utilized to address these challenges while the community develops revised strategies and funding. This funding can be used as leverage to secure additional sustainable funding, and is not intended to be an ongoing source of revenue.

United Way member organizations are eligible to apply for Flexible Funds. Non-United Way member organizations may apply in collaboration with United Way of Tompkins County member organizations.

Why is it important: The nonprofit community is currently experiencing uncertainty and reduction in multiple private and governmental funding streams. Changing demographic and workplace environments are realigning and placing strains on local communities, individuals and households across our region.

How you can make a difference today: Your gift will be matched 100% up to $20,000.  Please consider a gift to support the T. Merrell Shipherd Flexible Fund. To make a gift online, please visit www.uwtc.org
