Robotics Team puts programming to test
Mr. Barnes and the ASTEC Robotics Club have been at Smart Robotics Regional competitions Thursday and Friday, inching their way closer to the top of the contest.

" Guess who has a robot that can climb 4ft up a rope?" Barnes said. "That's 3.5 ft more than Mr Barnes can climb."

We're moving up the ranks and improving our robot every match, he said.

Find an update on Facebook and in next week's newsletter about how the team finished!
No business like show business
ASTEC'S most esteemed actors and actresses will take the stage on March 30 and 31 for "A Family Reunion to Die For!"

The play is a comedic murder-mystery that revolves around the Knotting Family Reunion turned upside down by a triple murder.

To make matters worse, a terrible storm has trapped all of the guests inside.  It’s up to Freddie to catch the murderer and save his blushing bride.  After all, he is a detective — well, a mall security guard turned wannabe detective, anyway.  Who is trying to wipe out the Knotting family?  Is it the pair of squirrel-hunting hillbilly sisters with their rifle?  The former Vegas showgirl with a knack for knitting?  The maid with a single digit IQ?  The grouchy cook?  The bitter journalist?  The troupe of mimes?  Will the perpetrator be found before the entire Knotting family gets the axe?

Cast members include: Melissa Prado, Madison Clayton, Alex Stager, Alora Brooks, Jacqueline Martinez, Salma Reyes, Emily Villigran, Leslie Henessee, Rain Serano, Marie Bernal, D'chika Onwusa, Walfred Bonilla, Estefani Martinez, Laura Martinez, and Jesus Rios.
Performance times are from 3:30 to 4 p.m. March 30th Thursday for Middle school scholars and March 31   from 3:30 to 4 p.m. March 31st for High School scholars. That evening, a family night performance will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tickets for family night are $3 and include dessert.

The play is directed by Jeff Hames and Vance Black.

No rest for the rowers

Our ASTEC comet rowing crew doesn't know the meaning of spring break.

Last week our scholar athletes gave up hours of their free time to make sure we are rowing for gold in our youth league regatta in May.  We had a 97% attendance! That's dedication!
We've mentioned it before and we'll say it again: The end of the school year is approaching and a mark of summer's arrival is having your school yearbook firmly in-hand. There's a lot to designing a yearbook and one of the most important elements is advertising.

With your advertising, you help keep our yearbook affordable to all ASTEC scholars. Ads are available in various sizes to fit your business and your budget.

Here's the breakdown: Full page: $300 Half page: $200 1/4 page: $150 1/8 page $100 1" by 8.5" Banner ad: $100 (A strip message to our Comets such as "Congratulations Seniors 2017 from Miller Construction"

For assistance with your ad or banner contact Hwarlick@asteccharterschools.com.

Don't have a business or need an ad but still want to help? Be a Yearbook Angel! Each school year, ASTEC manages to get every senior scholar a yearbook, whether they can afford it or not. This is with the help of Yearbook Angels, who donate $50 so a deserving student can take home a treasure trove of fond memories of their high school years.
