Allen Ray Powell Shares
Songs & Stories

Allen Ray Powell, a Baba-lover and musician based in Northern California, will present a mixed program of songs and stories:

"Guided to seek out PD Pukar at Meher's Samadhi/ Amartithi '74, I was gifted with the opportunity to be his companion for two weeks. Together, we traveled to Hamirpur, visited his home & that of Keshav Nigam's in the city of Hamirpur as well as following  the route of the Avatar as He gave His precious Darshan in '52 & '54.

Meher Baba said, while my body is entombed at Meherabad, I leave my Heart in Hamirpur. Come, find out how it is that Hamirpur is so unique & special!

I will share many holy moments with Pukar as well as a surprise video of Pukar. Additionally, we will discover magical moments as recollected by those who met with Pukar as he traversed America after leaving the Powell farm, Athens, Maine, site of what may be the very first western Sa havas."

For a sampling of Allen's music (and to sing along), see:

Come enjoy the lovely work and recollections of this visiting artist.

Jai Baba!
ABOUT THE ARTISTS

ALLEN RAY POWELL

"Baba swept me up in his net of lo ve while I was at the Meher Spiritual Center [Myrtle Beach] for the first time in April of 1971. Already a musician, I started composing songs for Baba, and the first song that I will play Sunday,  Sitting in the Presence , I played publicaly for the first time at the Harvard Divinity School 1972,  when Darwin Shaw was the keynote speaker. Many of my songs (I feel) I channeled; that was when I was  on Meherabad Hill. I have been at Amartithi in Meherabad in ' 74, '77, '97, and 2006."

Allen sings "s ongs in praise of the Divine Beloved," accompanied by his own guitar.  Allen's music often draws creatively on the joyous call-and-response form and style of Indian Kirtan singing. An experience not to be missed!

RAVINDRA (RAVI) DEO

Musician and composer Ravindra Deo is an award-winning tabla artist with several compositions to his credit.

A native of Long Beach, Calif., Ravi has collaborated with many notable choreographers, musicians and composers, including Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj, the dance collective Post Naytam, Hindustani vocalist Srimati Sunanda Patnaik, and intercultural composer Derrick Spiva Jr.  Ravi also toured nationally as a member of the esoteric space-Klezmer ensemble, The Rabbinical School Dropouts.

Ravi is a senior disciple of tabla artist Shri Ramesh Kumar Bharati and also studied tabla under Professor Abhiman Kaushal while completing a degree in Ethnomusicology from UCLA.

We are delighted to welcome both Allen and Ravi to perform together at Meherabode for the first time.

This event is free of charge.  Come enjoy Sunday at Meherabode!
