Recipient Spotlight: Rashidah

Rashidah has to wake up at 5:00 am in order to get her two year old son to daycare and herself to work on time. Her two hour commute involves three buses and walking over twenty minutes. She worries about her son being outside in the elements, especially in the winter.

In Rashidah’s neighborhood buses stop running at 6:00 pm, so she and her son are hardly able to do anything outside of their normal routine. The cost of buses and the occasional taxi cab add up, and Rashidah has been finding it difficult to balance the cost of transportation with her other bills.

She is beyond excited to receive her car award from Vehicles for Change. Rashidah is going to drive her son to Chuck-E-Cheese’s and plans on helping out other people that are struggling with transportation.

Solutions for Succesful Prison Reentry
April 26, 5:00 - 9:00 pm

As one of the region's leading sector-specific prison reentry programs, Vehicles for Change (VFC) will host a series of panel conversations about issues facing returning citizens.

The town hall meeting will be hosted by WBAL-TV's  I-Team Chief Investigative Reporter, Jayne Miller. She will lead a panel of returning citizens, local, state and religious reentry activists, and employers in a discussion about how to make the journey of returning home from prison one that breeds opportunity rather than rising recidivism.

Panelists will represent: Prison Fellowship International, Jane Addams Resource Corporation (JARC), Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), Crossroads Freedom Center and more. This event is free and open to the public.
