From the Rector
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:19-21)
That quotation is a portion of the gospel for Ash Wednesday, the beginning of our Lenten season.
Lent is our season for self-examination and repentance by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and a time for reading and meditating on God's Holy Word. (BCP 265)
To aid in your Lenten journey, I urge you to take up one or more of the disciplines of praying the Daily Offices, spiritual direction, formal confession, weekly attendance of Sunday worship, or adding the Wednesday Eucharist to your Lenten rule of life.
One of the most helpful things I have found to help me take stock of my spiritual life comes from the venerable Saint Augustine's Prayer Book that was first published by the Order of the Holy Cross in the late 1940s. Inside this devotional treasure, the Examination of Conscience is found, which we have put on our church web site at this link: Examination of Conscience. I invite you to make use of this wonderful resource.
These are but a few disciplines and if you have questions about these or any other disciplines please don't hesitate to contact me or one of the other clergy.

LENTEN ACTIVITIES AT ASCENSION
March 7 - April 5, 2017
TUESDAYS DURING LENT:
Welcome Silence begins at 5:15 PM. From 6:00 to 6:15 PM, we will observe the Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. All are welcome to attend either or both services.
WEDNESDAYS DURING LENT:
Simple Supper
6:00 - 6:30 PM - Share a nourishing meal; optional and free for all participants.
Lenten Family Activity Series
6:30 - 7:30 PM - Family activities will focus on a variety of spiritual disciplines to help make your Lenten experience a more holy one. Please prayerfully consider making this a priority time for your family to spend together. All ages are welcome - children, family groups, singles & couples, and no advance registration is necessary.
Lenten Book Study
6:30 - 8:00 PM, followed by Compline.
Horizons of Mission, Volume 11 of the New Church's Teaching Series, by the Rev. Dr. Titus Pressler, will be our text and frame our discussions in a seminar format. Please register in advance - contact Father Neat (
rector@ ascensionfrankfort.org). No meeting on March 15.
NOTE: Child care for pre-school children will be available on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with advance reservation. Contact Deacon Rebecca Saager to request child care, by the Sunday prior to need on Wednesday.

REQUIEM performance, Sunday, April 2, at Ascension, 4:00 PM. KSU Concert Choir with members of Ascension's choir.
"Gabriel Fauré composed his Requiem in D minor, Op. 48, between 1887 and 1890. The choral-orchestral setting of the shortened Catholic Mass for the Dead in Latin is the best-known of his large works. Its focus is on eternal rest and consolation. He composed the work in the late 1880s and revised it in the 1890s, finishing it in 1900... A performance takes about 35 minutes."
