House, Senate Trim HHS in Budget Targets for 2018-2019 Biennium
In preparation of developing the state's budget, the House Republicans on March 20 released their targets, which lay out how much spending they will authorize in each area of the budget. They proposed $599 million in cuts to Health and Human Services (HHS) spending for the next two-year period. Three days earlier, Senate Republicans set their targets, recommending $335 million in cuts to the HHS budget. Read more here
Registration Now Open for April 25 Health Care Forum
Registration is now open for the MMA-hosted forum on pending changes to federal health care legislation. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 25, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the University of Minnesota's Continuing Education and Conference Center in St. Paul. Read more here.
Health Department Seeks Physician for Diabetes Prevention Group
The Minnesota Department of Health is seeking a physician to join their Minnesota Diabetes Prevention Network Advisory Committee, a group that will be made up of approximately 12-15 people representing diverse statewide sectors. Read more here

Minnesota Medical Students Part of Largest Match Day Ever
MMA staff once again attended Match Day at the University of Minnesota on March 17 to join in the celebration as medical students learned the location and specialty of the U.S. residency programs where they will train for the next three to seven years. The National Resident Matching Program announced that this year's match was the largest in its history. A record-high 35,969 U.S. and international medical school students and graduates vied for 31,757 positions, the most ever offered in the Match. The number of available first-year positions rose to 28,849, 989 more than last year. Congratulations to all fourth-year medical students - both at the University of Minnesota Medical School and Mayo Clinic School of Medicine.

The editors of Minnesota Medicine are once again looking for physicians, residents and medical students to tap into their creativity and enter their work in the magazine's annual writing and photography contests. Read more here.
