'Parkside' festival puts young people center stage

Cumberland Council takes pride in being a youthful area. 1 in 5 people in our LGA are aged between 12-25. With Youth Week 2017 beginning next Saturday, it is a timely reminder that all young people should have their voices heard and their contribution welcomed.

One way we are doing this is with Parkside, a free festival for 12-24 year olds at Granville memorial Park on Saturday 8 April, 2-6pm.  A massive line up of young and emerging local talent will take to the stage, supported and mentored by established artists 'Savage' and 'DJ Willi'.  Young people will manage the stages, run the stalls and deliver an event that is sure to become a fixture in our community's calendar.

Meanwhile, a custom built pop-up skate park will transform Granville Memorial Park into Western Sydney's newest Skate Park. Here we are inviting  young people to have their say on the proposed Skate Park in Greystanes.   Council is also providing a free shuttle service to the event. Auburn & Bardo Park Upgrade: Progress Report

Cumberland Council is in the process of upgrading Auburn and Bardo Park. Auburn Park will benefit from a new amenities building, all ages fitness station, half-court basketball court and water feature, while Bardo Park will receive a new playground. Both sites will get new solar lighting, BBQs, footpaths, park furniture and landscaping.

Unfortunately the recent high rainfall has delayed the delivery of these projects. The Auburn Park Upgrade is now expected to be completed by early May, weather permitting.  The Bardo Park Upgrade was pushed back a couple of months due to utility service approvals. With work now recommenced the upgrade should be completed by late June, weather permitting.

Sydney's big wet continues

Sydney has experienced its wettest March in 33 years. The consequence of this is twofold. Grass is growing quicker than usual and Council's normal mowing schedule is being delayed.  With more rain forecasted, Council is currently making up lost time mowing grass verges and green space when possible. We appreciate your patience during this time.
