A Message from Wendy...

Hello fellow ASID members!

I'm Wendy, your Communications Director, and I just wanted to reach out to say hello and let you know about all of the great things we've been working on lately.
Angela has been doing a fantastic job of putting together events for us to attend. I hope you'll take advantage of all her hard work and attend a local event soon. In California, on Monday, April 3, there'll be a great event at our dear Premier Kitchen and Bath where we can learn about how to better identify and capitalize on sales opportunities.
Several of us (Kathleen Jennison, Tami Faulkner, and Wendy Glaister) recently all ended up in Beverly Hills together (rough, huh?) at the 2017 Design Bloggers Conference and what a terrific time we had! It was such a treat to attend a conference of that size and have our own little pack. Timothy Corrigan, Shea McGhee, Dunes and Duchess, Madcap Cottage, Ken Fulk, the Gianetti's of Patina Farm and so many more were there to impart incredible lessons of design inspiration and know-how. Podcasters James Swan, Luann Nigara and Nick May were also there to share their insight about how great designers do great business. We learned so much about blogging, social media, photography, business, and networking, and the best part was the great visiting and brainstorming at lunch and in the evening...helping and encouraging each other to be our best. Such a sisterhood...we hope you'll consider joining us next year. ASID sure came in handy when we needed friends.....I think we have all purchased our return ticket....Let's make it an ASID-CANV party!
We are all so busy and wear so many hats, but the friendships and trust we can build with each other helps us to bear the responsibility of such a profession, and it motivates us to continue to strive to do and be more than we were yesterday.
I can't encourage you enough to give a little time and energy to ASID CANV....with your presence, your insight, and your talent...the return on relationships that await you far outweigh the initial investment.
Sure hoping to have the privilege of meeting you soon.....

Wendy Glaister

Professional volunteers needed!
We need your help!  If you are a professional designer in the Las Vegas area, and would like to help review portfolios on April 21st at 4 pm, please contact Angela Britt at [email protected] or call 702-232-6892.  This is a wonderful opportunity to see the creative talent of students today.

Student Portfolio Review is an event established for undergraduate level students that are beginning their transformation into emerging designers. Student attendees receive a constructive one-on-one evaluation of their work from an ASID design professional.
Students, consider the Student Portfolio Review to be your call-to-action: to receive broader feedback and critique from new perspectives and fresh eyes. While this event is not a job fair, some reviewers may be looking for potential employees or interns. This is a great way to network and become aware of who's who in the Las Vegas design community.

Participation in the Portfolio Review allows you to:

  • Gain a greater understanding of your strengths and areas of improvement needed as a designer
  • Showcase your design portfolio and practice presenting your work
  • Experience feedback and constructive criticism from different perspectives
  • Build lasting and enriching relationships with soon-to-be design colleagues
  • Open doors of opportunity and discover a potentially new design avenue for your career
  • Pose questions to design industry professionals and have them directly answered
  • Learn methods, communication strategies and techniques of design experts
Students, please contact Sheryl Gordon: [email protected] to let her know that you plan to come.
