2017 Synod Assembly

June 1-3, 2017
  Formed, Reformed, Transformed
Visit our website for all the information you need on this year's Assembly which will be held at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Kentucky.

The FORMED, RE+FORMED, TRANSFORMED design being used for the Indiana-Kentucky Synod's 2017 assembly was created by Linda Henke to support observances of the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation in parish, judicatory, and church-wide settings.

The design's red-orange-gold color scheme conveys a sense of God's ongoing activity within and among God's people. Hymn texts in the background of each of the three panels add texture and bear witness to God's work across the centuries and around the globe. Three interlocking circles signal the Holy Trinity as the lens for reflecting upon God's love and faithfulness throughout the ages, reminding us that we are FORMED in the image of God, RE+FORMED through the cross of Jesus Christ, and TRANSFORMED by the power of the Spirit.  To read Linda's full description, please click here

Our Newest Cross
Our newest cross, from Faith Lutheran in Owensboro, KY begins with a Fleuree Cross which is based on a Budded Cross (the buds signifying immature faith). The Fleuree Cross has arms that end in flowers, which are in bloom, signifying a mature faith. The cross is further adorned with a variety of flora signifying the joy of the empty cross which once held the body of Christ, with stylized pansies in the forefront. The cross was fashioned by congregation member and woodworker David Acey. Each layer is made from a separate wood and the completed cross was lacquered to show the beautiful color and grain of each natural wood.

Falling and not afraid
In her April column for Living Lutheran, Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton reflects on the questions of life after death and what the Scripture says about heaven. She admits that she doesn't know what comes next in life-but she does know that it's in God's hands. Read her column in English or in Spanish or download a copy to share with your congregation.

COMPASS Live Chat: Conquering Student Loan Debt
Student loan debt (an unbelievable $1.3 trillion dollars owed) now exceeds total credit card debt, and the average college graduate has $30,000 in student loans to repay. The Federal Reserve found that 31% of borrowers are running 90 days or more late on student loan repayment, and there are now over 100,000 borrowers who have their Social Security benefits garnished for defaulted student loans (a 500% increase). Clearly, there is a crisis of student loan debt affecting many families, and the debt problems have an impact on stewardship and ability to be generous.

Join us for a conversation with Darryl Dahlheimer, program director for Lutheran Social Services Financial Counseling, a partner of Everence, who will tell us about new repayment options, how to conquer student loan debt, and share stories of experience and hope about this challenging issue.
