Decanter: " Rhône 2010 is one of the finest vintages for 40 years, Decanter's expert John Livingstone-Learmonth
While searching out library vintages for an elite Dallas Country Club we came across an importer who asked if we might be interested in tasting 2010 Gigondas. We most certainly were and always will be. As a matter of fact, while I write I am tasting a bottle of
the 2010 Brotte Gigondas
which he was kind enough to provide. I have been uncorking and monitoring for three days. When first opened it was
big with racy raspberry and blackberry finishing with rich red plum.
White pepper
was and still
is sprinkled through the finish
. After 3 days of uncorking and recorking the fruit is still bright and the wine has become bigger and richer.
Chocolate and coffee flavors have emerged from the middle and through the finish.
The 2010 Brotte Gigondas was wonderful and complex the moment we opened it on Day 1. The fact that it has held its structure while growing in complexity for three days now leads me to believe it will be a cellar treasure for 15 or more years IF YOU CAN KEEP FROM DRINKING IT ALL AFTER TRYING YOUR FIRST BOTTLE. R
This is a wine everyone should try. If you have not had a Gigondas before, why not start with an excellent one like this one. So beautiful and easy to drink. Just like the 2009 Burgundies....I converted a lot of non-French drinkers to Pinot. But, it is not just the varietal that is great, it is a near perfect example of what the varietal should be!! And, if you have followed Rex and me for a while, you have not seen many Gigondas offers....why? Believe me, we have tried a few here and there over the years, and not been pleased, which was always a bummer. This time....a case is definitely worth every penny!!! M
