Before moving to Dalton in 2013, Kim Thames lived in California, Texas, and Illinois relocating with husband Trey's job at Shaw Industries. Kim holds a Bachelor's in Speech Communications from California State Long Beach and was employed by Interior Specialists and by Vintage Design in Southern California.
When she moved to Dalton, Kim recalls "Seeing an overwhelming need." Soon after, a friend invited Kim to the Women's Leadership Spring Symposium. She discovered how United Way works to create a better community. "I felt invested and connected for the first time. Suddenly, Dalton seemed brighter, and I witnessed a community where corporations and individuals come together to give back. It was something entirely special and something I had not experienced before."
Kim is an active member of the Women's Leadership Council since joining in May 2013. She currently serves on the United Way Board of Directors and Corporate Volunteer Council. When asked why United Way is important, she replied, "To me, United Way is hope! When you have options, you have hope. United Way is the HOPE of Northwest Georgia; it's the building blocks of a good life through education, basic needs, and health."
Kim also serves on Dalton High School's PTO Board and enjoys entertaining, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her husband, Trey, and their two sons, Cade (14), and Kyle (15).
