SOARS is an undergraduate to graduate program built around a summer research internship, mentoring by  top scientists and engineers,  a nd a supportive learning community. 

In addition to the summer internship, SOARS includes year-round support, funding to attend conferences and last-dollar tuition scholarships. Successful proteges are eligible to participate in the program for up to four years.

2017 Application Available Online 
October 16 - February 1!

This program places minority students interested in journalism as a career and who want to learn about science writing at Science Magazine for 10 weeks over the summer. Interns experience what it's like to cover the scientific and technological issues that shape our global community.

We are looking for passionate young leaders interested in education, science, conservation, non-profit management, and giving back to one of San Diego's most undeserved  and diverse communities, City Heights. In order to serve the community, we seek talented individuals from City Heights or similar backgrounds, who can relate to and are dedicated to addressing the challenges of urban communities.

The Summer Clinical and 
 Translational Research Program
The Summer Clinical and Translational Research Program (SCTRP) is a ten-week mentored, summer research program designed to enrich the pipeline of college students' understanding of and interest in pursuing clinical and/or translational research, as well as to increase exposure of college students from groups underrepresented in medicine and from disadvantaged groups to clinical/translational research.

The Visiting Research Internship Program (VRIP)
 The The Visiting Research Internship Program (VRIP) is an eight-week mentored, summer research program designed to enrich medical students' interest in research and health-related careers, particularly clinical/translational research careers.

A panel of distinguished experts will explore how early experience impacts adult brain structure and function, as well as to help clarify the extent of this influence and the mechanisms by which developmental neuronal plasticity affects the adult brain.

Students engaged in undergraduate research/scholarship activities and creative works are eligible to become Research Scholars regardless of funding source or formal program affiliation.
Travel Awards

Are you presenting your research at a conference soon? 

You may qualify for the OUR Travel Award!

Eligibility
  • Must be a full-time USD undergraduate in good academic standing
  • Must be an author, co-author and presenter at the conference
  • Limit one travel grant per student. Previous recipients are not eligible for a second grant

As soon as you have received acceptance to the conference, complete the application ( individual or  group) and submit the required documents to  ugresearch@sandiego.edu
