SCORE Presentation: Master the Sales Process
Rorie Johnston
Today, at 4:30 in the Council Chambers at City Hall,  Assistant City Manager Jay Petrek will be presenting the draft council action plan for 2017-2018.

I encourage you to read the staff report so you can see what council's goals are, and which strategies are being proposed in the areas of economic development, community improvement, fiscal management and public safety. And as always, you're invited to attend the meeting and take advantage of the opportunity to voice your thoughts to council in person.

More information about the purpose of the action plan is on the city website

The City Council Action Plan represents the City Council's collective vision for Escondido's future and the key activities that will be used to achieve that vision. It is developed biennially following a workshop where key policy interests are identified and discussed by the City Council and City Staff.

Sincerely,

Rorie Johnston
Government
On Friday, April 14, 2017, Escondido Mayor Sam Abed, along with members of the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) Board of Directors, will hold a news conference to publicly oppose California Assembly Bill AB 805. The news conference will take place at Noon in front of the SANDAG headquarters at 401 B Street in San Diego immediately following the Board of Directors meeting. AB 805, authored by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, is aimed at changing the existing governance structure of SANDAG.

This bill will change the balance of power, polarize the governing board, disfranchise many cities from the collective decision making process, give selected few cities on the board a disproportionate majority voting advantage and is an overreach by the State of California. SANDAG, since its formation, has been effective in building consensus to plan and improve infrastructure and public transportation for the San Diego Region.

SANDAG's board members, who are elected officials representing 18 cities and the County of San Diego, have worked well together to serve San Diego County's needs. SANDAG is now viewed as a successful model throughout California and the nation. AB 805 will put SANDAG's future success at risk.

The University of San Diego  Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate's Index of Leading Economic Indicators rose 0.4 percent in February, compared to the month before, to reach the highest level in 11 years, Professor Alan Gin said Thursday.  The increase, the fourth in a row, was led by strong gains in consumer confidence and the outlook for the national economy, Gin said.  The index reached 142.6 last month, the highest since a 142.7 was recorded in March 2006. By comparison, the recession-era low was 100.7 in March 2009.
