Through the Foundation's Honor An Educator program, you can thank a special teacher, principal, coach, bus driver, or other school staff member who has gone "above & beyond" in your life. Let the Lawrence Township School Foundation help you.

2017  HONORED ALUMNI

Jasmin French, Lawrence Central, Class of 1997
Jasmin French is an associate in Ice Miller's Employee Benefits  group with a focus on  executive compensation, equity-based compensation, and  qualified retirement plan design for midsize and large corporate clients. Prior to her practice in the employee benefits area, Jasmin represented  private and public companies in a variety of industries in connection with domestic mergers, international tax restructurings, stock and asset acquisitions, reorganizations, and private equity offerings ranging in value from $5 million to $125 million.

Prior to joining Ice Miller, Jasmin was a corporate associate with DLA Piper, US LLP. She also has Corporate Counsel experience from her time at Redbox Automated Retail, the DVD rental kiosk company, and at Atkore International, a billion dollar electrical and metal products manufacturer, both headquartered in the Chicagoland area.

In 2009, she founded J FRENCH, a personal branding consulting firm, created as a vehicle to help top performing professionals, entrepreneurs, professional athletes, and graduate students add their own voice to others' perceptions by creating and showcasing a powerful personal brand. Her expertise has allowed her to be featured in Newsweek, The American Bar Association Student Lawyer magazine, The Chicago Bar Association's magazine, and numerous online publications including as a former contributing writer to the blog behind the award winning start-up BrandYourself.

Ms. French has served as a Diversity Fellow of the American Bar Association, General Practice & Solo Division, and she is the former Chair of the Young Professional Board of the Chicago Sinfonietta Orchestra. Her interest in serving her community extends around the world as well. Jasmin has interned for the global company, Colgate Palmolive, in Bangkok, Thailand, and she was a member of a team of students who produced a documentary in Russia addressing social issues. Jasmin serves on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, the Young Professional Auxiliary Board, and the Board of the Eiteljorg Museum.

Jasmin graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School in 2007, was elected to the Vanderbilt Bar Association, and was active in the Business Clinic and the Black Law Students Association. She is a 2001 graduate of Duke University, where she was the recipient of the Terry Sanford Award for Outstanding Leadership, a student member of the University Board of Trustees, and held a two-year appointment to the University's Trinity Board of Visitors.

Wallace R. "Ace" Yakey, Lawrence Central, Class of 1971
Ace Yakey began his career at Lilly Endowment as program  director in the  community development division on Nov. 1, 1997. In late 2012, he was  elected vice president for community development. The community development division grantmaking focuses primarily on the quality of life in Indianapolis and Indiana, and it grants funds for human/social needs, central-city and neighborhood revitalization, low-income housing, and arts and culture in Indianapolis. It also supports amateur athletics and fitness organizations, facilities and programs that help advance the city's economic revitalization, and community recreational opportunities. On a statewide level, it provides major support for the growth and development of community foundations and the advancement of United Ways.

Before joining the Endowment, Yakey was president of the Indianapolis Economic Development Corporation, a not-for-profit corporation responsible for the retention/expansion of existing businesses and the attraction of new businesses to the Indianapolis area. He spent 13 years in commercial real estate and development, and prior to that he was the assistant campaign director of the United Way of Central Indiana.

Yakey serves as a trustee of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Indianapolis. He also serves on the board of the Indy Chamber and the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy Board of Visitors, is a member of the Penrod Society, and is a graduate of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series. He has served as a board member on numerous community and civic organizations, including Dance Kaleidoscope, Jordan YMCA, Community Hospital Foundation, National Art Museum of Sport, Washington Township Parent Council, Greater Indianapolis Foreign Trade Zone, and Mid-City Pioneer Corp. He also is a past president of the Hanover College Alumni Association.

Yakey graduated from Hanover College in 1975 with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and received the Hanover College Alumni Association's Outstanding Senior Award. Recently he was awarded the Alumni Achievement Award. Yakey earned his master of social work degree from Indiana University in 1980.  

An Indianapolis native, he and his wife, Beth, are the parents of two daughters and have two grandchildren.

Christine Montross, Lawrence North, Class of 1991
A 2015 Guggenheim Fellow in Nonfiction, Dr. Christine Montross is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She is also a staff psychiatrist at Butler Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. She completed medical school and residency training at Brown University, where she received the Isaac Ray Award in Psychiatry and the Martin B. Keller Outstanding Brown Psychiatry Resident Award.  She received her undergraduate degrees and a Master of Fine Arts in poetry from the University of Michigan, where she also taught writing classes as a lecturer following graduation. She was born and raised in Indianapolis.

Dr. Montross's first book, Body of Work, was named an Editors' Choice by The New York Times and one of The Washington Post's best nonfiction books of 2007. Her second book, Falling Into the Fire, was named a New Yorker Book to Watch Out For. She has also written for many national publications including The New York Times, The New England Journal of Medicine, The Washington Post Book World, Good Housekeeping and O, The Oprah Magazine.

Dr. Montross has been named a 2017-2018 Faculty Fellow at the Cogut Center for the Humanities, a 2010 MacColl Johnson Fellow in Poetry, and the winner of the 2009 Eugene and Marilyn Glick Emerging Indiana Authors Award. She has also had several poems published in literary journals, and her manuscript Embouchure was a finalist for the National Poetry Series. She and her partner, the playwright Deborah Salem Smith, live in Rhode Island with their two young children.

David Lawrence, Lawrence North, Class of 1986
Dave Lawrence is the President and CEO of the Arts Council of Indianapolis. He serves as the chief arts advocate for the arts and cultural community of Indianapolis, leads the professional staff of the Arts Council, and represents the arts community in local, regional, and national matters. His work includes the development of grant programs and initiatives for arts and cultural organizations as well as fellowship programs for professional artists including the nationally recognized Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship program that has awarded more than $3.5 million in direct support to artists since its inception in 1999. He conceived, created, and opened Gallery 924, a fine art gallery to support and exhibit the work of central Indiana professional artists, and launched Indianapolis' citywide murals program, 46 for XLVI that received national and international acclaim. Dave's arts management background includes work with Indianapolis Opera, Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, Clowes Memorial Hall, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Indiana University Auditorium, and the INB Broadway Series.

Dave's 27 years of service to the Indianapolis arts community has focused on grantwriting/grantmaking, cultural tourism, marketing, advocacy and arts policy development, arts education, strategic planning, and public art. Dave has created innovative arts infusion strategies for major sporting events such as the 2001 World Police and Fire Games, the 2005 US World Swimming Trials, Super Bowl XLVI, and the 2015 NCAA Men's Final Four. He also served on local organizing committees for the 2015 Procter and Gamble Gymnastics Championships, the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, and the 2016 US Conference of Mayors meeting in Indianapolis.

Dave is a member of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series Class XXIX, Indy Hub Advisory Committee, Indiana Nonprofit Sector Advisory Board for the Center of Philanthropy, and Music Crossroads Steering Committee. He is the recipient of a 2012 NUVO Cultural Vision Award and was named to Indianapolis Business Journal's Who's Who in Hospitality. Dave holds a B.A. in Communication from DePauw University.
