MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS UPDATE

Boys' Basketball

From Mrs. Burton and Mr. Comstock:

First, we just want to say how proud we are of all the boys and their hard work this season. They grew as individuals and as teammates, and there is nothing more a coach can ask of the players than to work hard and learn to improve. We are grateful for the opportunity to coach the boys this season.

Girls' Basketball

Girls' basketball is right around the corner! Please review and complete the Athletic Handbook.
If your daughter played volleyball earlier this year at WCA, you do not need to complete the forms. However, you will still be required to pay.

The fee for each player is $150. Please make checks payable to WCA.    The girls will practice once a week (Tuesday) from 6:00-7:30pm.

A word from Coach Ryan,

I'm really looking forward to getting the girls' basketball season going! I know most of the team and parents, and I've been fortunate enough to coach a lot of these young ladies in recent years. This however, is going to be a little more special since we will be competing for and representing World Compass! If I haven't had the chance to meet you, I look forward to catching up as we experience this season together.

From  7:00pm -7:30pm, we will work with the girls that aren't currently playing on a team and provide additional help with terminology, concepts and additional skills coaching. This is also open gym time for the other girls to shoot around, or you'll be free to head out.

Expectations: Hard Work, Positive Attitude and Teamwork. These three elements are discussed with the coaches at each practice, and we will recognize the young lady that demonstrates these characteristics with the Cougar Award.

Assistant Coaches:  Sooni Burton & Chris Beerbower

SPELLING BEE WINNER!

WCA held its second annual spelling bee on Friday,
December 15. We had 25 of our top spellers in grades 3-7 competing in a very tough competition. Our fourth and fifth place finishers were Sofia V. and Augie T. The second
runner-up was Sasha L., and our first runner-up was
Logan W.
Senay T. won the championship round with the
word financiers. He will be representing WCA at the district
bee in February.

Congratulations and great job to all of our contestants!

CONGRATULATIONS TO MARCO!

We would like to give 5th grader, Marco, and his cross country team a HUGE shout out for placing 3rd at a meet this month! This ranks them as the 3rd best team for Cross Country (9-10 year old boys) in the NATION! This is a huge accomplishment for the boys who worked so hard and have such great dedication to their sport. We are proud of you, Marco!
