Monday, January 8th is the first day of school for 2018. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season, and look forward to welcoming our students and staff back on the 8th.

Lovejoy High School Senior Bumper Pool was named to the 2017 Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 5A All-State High School Football Team. Congratulations to Bumper on this outstanding achievement. To view the press release click here.

 The Work-Based Learning classes at Lovejoy High School are hosting an annual toy drive in January to benefit the children in Little Leopards. Collection boxes will be placed at each campus and at the Administration building. Toy collection will begin when students and staff return to school on January 8th. WSMS Band, Choir and Orchestra
Give Back
|
The Willow Springs Middle School band, choir and orchestra programs adopted seven families from the Houston area in the Operation Hurricane Harvey Christmas Happiness Donation Event. After such a devastating event this fall, the WSMS music families raised over $2,000 in gift cards to share holiday joy. Each family will have over $300 to spend towards some holiday cheer. Thank you so much to all our music families who generously donated to these families as they rebuild.

Successful Eagle Scout Project
|
A thank you message from Hunter Kight, WSMS 8th Grade Student, for the community support regarding his Eagle Scout Project benefitting hurricane relief efforts:
"I would like to thank everyone for their donation. It was a blessing, not only for me but for the families' lives that you have impacted. This Eagle project would not be complete without the time out of your day that you spent to help me reach my goals. I have grown more in my life because of this Eagle project and because of your generosity. And for that I thank you. With your help we collected:
86 cases of water
800+ pounds of food
60 cases/bags of diapers
50 containers of formula
250 jars of baby food
225 Hygiene Kits
We also collected clothes, shoes, school supplies, and cleaning supplies."

Kindergarten
Gifted and Talented Referrals
|
Referrals for kindergarten Gifted and Talented services are available through the PowerSchool Parent Portal until January 12, 2018.
Only students referred through PowerSchool will complete the full battery of assessments on Saturday, February 10th and 24th. Services for identified kindergarten students begin March 1, 2018.

"If you have been around the district this week, you may have noticed the thermometers have reached $200,000 on our Annual Appeal signs. On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools, I would like to say thank you to our community for helping us reach our $200,000 goal for Annual Appeal.

Lovejoy Visual Arts
Lovejoy Visual Arts is proud to announce that three seniors were selected to participate in the Allen Art Alliance 20 under 20 art exhibit. Tad Greenwald (AP Drawing), Ryan Irwin (Drawing and Painting 3), and Eli Ruhala (AP Drawing) were selected as 3 of the 20 artists under the age of twenty to represent the highest caliber of high school and college work in the DFW area. We invite you to view their work at the opening reception on January 11th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, or visit the work at your leisure from January 12th through January 28th. WSMS Visual Arts
The WSMS Visual Art students were busy this month completing assignments for their final exams. In Art II, students created assignments with an emphasis on still life, while in Art I, students used linocut printmaking to create stylized self-portraiture. All students are completing their sketchbooks and printing their own covers.

LISD Performing Arts
Throughout the month of December, our performing arts groups are requested by many community businesses to perform. They participate in local holiday activities, and tour the Metroplex sharing the gift of holiday music. From the elementary campuses to our high school campus, our fine arts performing groups represent Lovejoy with the highest of performance caliber. Enjoy a few highlights of the many activities in which our students and staff have participated throughout the holiday season.

LISD Bands
Tuba and euphonium players from Sloan Creek, Willow Springs, and Lovejoy High School participated in Tuba Christmas this past Sunday at Watters Creek in Allen. There was a great crowd, and both students and staff had a "blast."

Lovejoy High School Band
The LHS Band performed at the annual Fairview Christmas Parade hosted by Heritage Ranch.

LHS Orchestra
The Lovejoy High School String Quartet performed at all three elementary campuses recently. They played holiday selections as students arrived to school to spread some seasonal cheer. The members of the quartet are: Anthony Tang - violin, Daniel Xue - violin, Regan Miller - viola, and Abigail Xue - cello.

Sloan Creek and Willow Springs Choirs
The Sloan Creek Sixth Grade Choir and the Willow Springs Choirs spread Holiday Cheer with their voices this year. The Pop Groups LimeLight and CenterStage had a busy schedule singing for The Fairview Tree Lighting, Lovejoy Elementary School, Lovejoy ISD Administration, Allen City Hall, Parkview Retirement Center, The Shops of Allen, Allen Presbyterian Hospital, and Cracker Barrel. The Pop groups ended their singing adventures this weekend at NorthPark Center.
The Sloan Creek Sixth Grade Choir performed for Allen City Hall on December 13th.
The Willow Springs Middle School Choirs wrapped up their singing season with a caroling adventure through the homes in Cimarron neighborhood hosted by The Wood Family. Thank you for supporting these singing Leopards.

Lovejoy High School Choir
The Lovejoy High School Choir spent several days performing at Heritage Ranch, singing on tours at NorthPark Center, Alexis Estates, and Victoria Gardens. The choirs were busy "singing loud for all to hear."

Lovejoy Elementary Choir
The Lovejoy Double L choir performed at NorthPark Center for the first time on December 18th. The 3rd and 4th graders sang their Holiday Program acapella for the many busy holiday shoppers.

WSMS Theatre
The Willow Springs Middle School Theatre tech classes have been working on sewing skills for costuming and sets. The students learn a variety of basic stitches using the sewing machine. In this photo, students show off their pillow cases which feature a "French" seam.

Lovejoy Boys Basketball
Despite a strong start against the Rockwall Yellowjackets, the Varsity Leopards were down by 16 points at the half and were unable to regain the points needed for a win. The team was led in scoring by Carson Holden with 19 points, which included 5 three-pointers. Drew Doig also contributed 12 points. The Leopards will begin district play at Forney this Friday, the 22nd.
The JV Leopards fought hard against the Rockwall Yellowjackets, but were ultimately defeated. Harper Pool led the team in scoring, with 11 points. The JV team will also begin district play this Friday, the 22nd, against Forney.
The JV Red Leopards traveled to Rockwall Friday night and won their game against the Sophomore team from Rockwall High School. The Leopards came alive in the second half and pulled away for a 19 point victory. Chase Stout led the scoring with 9 points. Alex Witkowski, Chris Newton, and George Bentley all chipped in 6 to spearhead the balanced attack. Austin Doucet and Mikey Billingsley did a nice job of controlling the pace all evening and kept the offense running smoothly. Andy Bankes led the defensive effort and helped force Rockwall into multiple turnovers. The Red team will be back in action for the Allen Holiday Tournament starting Thursday, December 28th, at Curtis Middle School vs McKinney Boyd. We hope to see you there.
The Lovejoy freshmen boys' basketball team lost their second game of the season to Prosper. The Leopards got off to a great start, outscoring Prosper 20-13 in the first quarter. Prosper responded in the fourth, outscoring the Leopards 19-7. The Leopards lost 48-51. The high scorers of the game were Reid Westervelt with 16 points, and Patrik Repak with 9 points. The Freshmen Leopards will begin District play this Friday against the Forney Jackrabbits in Forney.

Lovejoy Girls Basketball
The Lady Leopards continued two of their best traditions this past week with their annual Christmas Party and Shoot-a-thon. This past Saturday, the Lady Leopards shot free throws to support the Lovejoy Special Olympics.
During this busy week, the Lady Leopards took care of business on the court as their combined record for 7th-12th grade was 10-1. All three high school teams will be back in action on Friday at home vs Forney. Both JV teams will play at 4:30 PM, followed by Varsity at 6:00 PM.

WSMS Cross Country
Congratulations to the Willow Springs Cross Country teams. These athletes began training in August, and wrapped up the season with the District meet on Tuesday, December 13th in Rockwall.

Lovejoy Soccer
Both Boys and Girls Soccer have begun in-season practices for the 2018 Soccer season. The Boys Soccer team will kick off its 2018 season with the annual Alumni game on January 2nd at Leopard Stadium beginning at 6:00 PM.

Lovejoy Swim and Dive
The team will be hard at work during the Christmas break preparing for the Rockwall Quad-Meet on January 6th, as well as the District 12-5A Championship meet to be held on Saturday, January 20th at the Rodenbaugh Natatorium in Allen.

Elementary Schools to Host
Late Night Leopards - Campus Campouts
An exciting new event will be held at the elementary campuses this spring: Late Night Leopards - Campus Campouts. This event will accomplish two things: Campus Campout will provide a memorable experience for the parents and students at the elementary level, and will also generate funds through business sponsors and a camp fee. The funds raised from this event will help to replace state funding lost from the last legislative session. If you know of a business which would have interest in sponsoring a portion of this event at any or all of the campuses, please contact the appropriate campus principal:

The Lovejoy Running Club
The Lovejoy Running Club will be meeting at the regular days and times over the holidays for those of you interested in continuing your training, or starting off the new year with a new resolution. We hope you will join us.
The Lovejoy Running Club meets every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6:00 PM near the Duck Pond at Celebration Park. All ages and ability levels are welcome to attend, from novice walkers looking to shed a few pounds, to elite runners gearing up for the next race. e two Pre-K classrooms open at Puster Elementary. This program offers enhancements in music, fitness, art, library, science, technology, engineering, and math. We are enthusiastic about providing a Lovejoy education for community members looking for a rich learning experience which will provide a firm foundation for kindergarten and beyond.

BYOP® (Volleyball Winter and Spring Sessions): Pre-Registration Ends Friday
BYOP® Program Overview:
This training program is designed for any volleyball player, no matter what skill or ability level, as long as their goal is to become the best they can be. Parents must be fully dedicated to being actively involved in this program. BYOP® will provide excellent volleyball fundamental skills training, as well as life lessons to both player and parent.
BYOP® Program Details:
Each training session will build upon a solid foundation of all fundamental skills needed to participate in the sport of volleyball. Parents must be engaged in every training session and involved in the home training program involving physical and skills activities.

Relay for Life: April 6
Relay for Life Gallery Wall Opportunity
Relay for Life is an annual event held at Lovejoy High School to raise awareness of cancer and donate to cancer research. This year's initiative is to bring the Lovejoy community together as a whole to promote a sense of community and care. The entire Lovejoy community is invited to participate in this event on April 6, 2018.
To encourage participation of students at the elementary and intermediate school levels, the LHS Relay for Life organizers are hosting a coloring page activity. Students may

to print the coloring page and decorate it as creatively as they can. They may then turn the page into the receptionist desk at their campus to receive a pencil, sticker or other prize. The event organizers will use all coloring pages to create a gallery wall for the event, which will represent loving support for those whose lives have been affected by cancer.
We hope you will save the date of April 6th and join us for Relay for Life.
Relay for Life Luminarias
Relay for Life is selling Luminarias for the Relay for Life event on April 6th at Lovejoy High School. Luminarias honor those whose lives have been affected by cancer. You may dedicate a Luminaria to loved ones who lost their battles with cancer, someone currently battling cancer, or anyone who has overcome cancer. When you attend the Relay event, you will see the Luminarias placed around the track, decorated with names and sometimes messages to whom they are dedicated. Luminarias are $10.
