Parents,

Thanks so much to Ron Jones and soundman Kevin King for a beautiful Spring Sing.  What a great night!

Thank you, PTA, and all who made Teacher Appreciation a week to remember.  We are so grateful for all our teachers do to care for each and every child at Murwood. This is my favorite week because teachers are deliriously happy with all the recognition they so deserve!

Please join us Friday morning at 8:30 to have coffee with Marie Morgan, WCSD Superintendent.  We look forward to spending time with you.

Carol Nenni
Murwood Principal
From the Office

We wanted to bring everyone's attention to the increase in cases of lice this time of year.  Please be aware of checking your children regularly and encouraging them to not engage in close (head to head) contact with each other.
For more information regarding the spread & prevention of lice, the District Nurse has provided the resource links below.

Our last PTA meeting is right around the corner on May 16th at 7pm in the Library.  This is a great meeting and you will not want to miss it.  We will discuss our next year's budget as well as options for fundraising for next year.  We would love your input.

Teacher Appreciation Week is off to a great start!  All of our teachers and staff are feeling the love!!  Thank you to all who have volunteered and participated.  Your time and efforts are appreciated.

It is that time for our Honorary Service Awards!  Stop by the office or look for the link in the e-news for the form and nominate that person that has gone above and beyond this year!  The forms are due by May 12th.

Teacher Appreciation Week is This Week!!!

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week at Murwood. During this week we show our appreciation for our excellent and dedicated teachers and staff.  Each day we will be doing something special for our teachers. We need parent volunteers to make this a special week, so if you are interested and can help, please sign up on Sign-up Genius.  If you have any questions, please email Cortny or Janet.
Superintendent Coffee

Marie Morgan, the WCSD Superintendent, is hosting a "News You Can Use" coffee at Murwood on Friday, May 5, at 8:30 am.

This is an opportunity to share the outcomes of our stakeholder meetings including a shift in our collaboration model.  This model will include a new, consistent bell schedule at the elementary level.  Beginning Fall 2017, all students in the WCSD will follow a late start on Wednesday schedule. Walnut Creek Intermediate School currently follows this late start schedule on Wednesdays and our partner, Acalanes Union High School District, will be adding additional late start days with the adoption of their new block schedule. Finally, she will share that we are investigating new curriculum for all specials to ensure consistent, quality programs with lessons aligned to the standards in each content area across the district.

We look forward to seeing you there!
National Bike to School Day

Wednesday, May 10 isBike to School Day. WHY bike? It's fun, it's healthy, it reduces traffic, and it's pollution-free! Students are reminded to use Street Smarts to stay safe while biking, skateboarding, or riding scooters:
  • Wear helmets
  • Ride on theright sideof the road. Go in the same direction as traffic!
  • Make eye contact with other drivers when crossing intersections
  • Stop at red lights and stop signs
  • Walk bikes in crosswalks and on campus
Parents are reminded to use Street Smarts while driving in the 25 MPH school zone. Your children - and their classmates- are worth the extra time it takes to drive safely.
Honor an Extraordinary Volunteer

Do you know someone who has gone the extra mile for the Murwood community this year? It's time to nominate that person for an Honorary Service Award. The PTA seeks to recognize those in our school community who make a difference in the lives of the students at Murwood. They can be turned into the school office or emailed to Heather Houston [email protected]. Please contact Heather with any questions.

Cashometer Update
It's time to move our cashometer totals again. We're up to $835,000 this year. That gets us to 76% of the way to our goal of $1,100,000. If you haven't made your donation, now's the time. If your friends haven't made their donation, now is the time to remind them. The Districts count our WCEF dollars when making their budgetary plans for next year. Programs become vulnerable when we don't reach our goals. We are currently in talks with the districts we serve to decide what services will be reduced.
