BRANTLEY RISK & INSURANCE CENTER
2017 YEAR-END REVIEW
Dr. David Marlett

Managing Director
FROM THE DIRECTOR

As 2017 reaches conclusion, it is time to reflect and look back at the past year.  This has been a year of transition and growth in the Brantley Center with team members moving into new roles and accepting new responsibilities.  We continue renovations to our physical space to make it more welcoming to students. We launched new initiatives on attracting students from diverse backgrounds,  supporting applied research projects and revitalizing the Insurance Symposium Series.

It has been a productive and exciting year and I've truly enjoyed working with my colleagues, students and industry professionals.  The Brantley Board of Advisors has provided guidance, support and resources to help create one of the top RMI programs in the nation.  In particular, I want to recognize outgoing Board Chair Ray Tedder for his thoughtful leadership and strong commitment to the success of our students.

We Wish You a Wonderful Holiday Season and a Happy, Healthy 2018!

New Faculty

Dr. Lori Medders joined the faculty as the  Joseph F. Freeman Distinguished Professor of Insurance at the start of 2017-2018 academic year. Dr. Medders comes to us from Florida State University where she served as director of the Florida Catastrophic Storm Risk Management Center and a professor of risk management and insurance within the College of Business at Florida State University. Prior to joining the center, Dr. Medders taught risk management and insurance at Georgia State University and Georgia Southern University.
Inclusion Excellence Initiative

Earlier this year, the Brantley Center team decided to revitalize the Building Insurance Talent program which was developed in 2010 to attract and support students of diverse backgrounds. The program includes mentoring, networking opportunities and career development. While in the beginning stages of its new era, we are developing a robust program to introduce diverse students to opportunities  in risk management and insurance and provide the students with the tools and resources to succeed in this industry.
Brantley Center Modernization Continues

The entrance to the Brantley Center received a welcome update and is now much more inviting to students.  The style is consistent with other recent renovations in the Walker College of Business.  The new larger glass doors and conference room wall brighten the workplace and create a more modern atmosphere.  We appreciate the financial support from the IIANC that made the renovations possible.
