Cut to the Chase
Hybrid Foundation System Put to the Test at San Francisco's New Chase Center
The Golden State Warriors will start the 2019-2020 NBA season in a new 18,000 seat, state-of-the-art sports and entertainment arena situated on eleven acres of prime San Francisco real estate. Chase Center development is underway and Malcolm Drilling is leading the underground construction on this beautiful waterfront site.

Malcolm recently completed a successful test pile program to verify the load-carrying capacity of a hybrid system of large-diameter continuous flight auger piles and drilled shafts. Production pile installation is scheduled for Summer 2017.
Drilling Deeper
Oceanwide Center Update
Malcolm recently completed the installation of one method and two full scale load test shafts. All shafts were drilled into bedrock with the deepest hole reaching 324 feet below grade. Multi-level Bi-directional testing was successfully performed to a maximum equal top load of over 24,000 kips. Test data will be used to confirm or adjust previous design values for this design-assist project. CSM test panel installation will be next before we continue with the construction of the temporary shoring wall on this very challenging project in the middle of San Francisco.

Setting Standards
Excavation Stabilization Near the Great Salt Lake
With flexible design intended to adapt to the changing aviation industry, the Salt Lake City International Airport Redevelopment Project has set the standard for the next generation of hub airport facilities.

Malcolm Drilling has been involved in the foundation work on this project since it broke ground in 2014. Most recently, Malcolm installed more than 7,500 stone columns, temporary excavation shoring using our triple-auger soil mixing technique, and deep dewatering system including recharge wells. Our ultimate goal is to deliver a shored excavation with a stable subgrade sufficient for heavy equipment and rock trucks to access the bottom of the excavated site.
