Tiger Tank Competition
Ada Entrepreneur of the Year Recognized
Congratulations to Clyde Leach with Leachco for being awarded entrepreneur of the year following the Tiger Tank competition
at East Central University

East Central University hosted their annual "Tiger Tank" Competition with many high school and college students pitching new business ideas in front of judges. Loosely modeled after the TV show "Shark Tank," ECU students were joined by local high school students from Ada High School, Latta High School, and Paul's Valley to pitch their ideas. The winning students receive a cash prize and are recognized at an award luncheon following the competition.

"So much of Ada's economic success has come from local entrepreneurs," said James Eldridge, Interim CEO for the Ada Jobs Foundation.   "Events like this help students gain experience and encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs."  The Ada Jobs Foundation is continuing to find ways to support local entrepreneurship and build on existing community strengths.

The Ada Jobs Foundation has been a consistent sponsor of the competition.  Annually sponsoring the top prize for the college student division, and this year awarded $250 to Srijita Ghosh for her business idea Elixir.

Following the Tiger Tank Competition, Clyde Leach with Leachco was recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year.   More about Leachco and the products they manufacture in our community HERE.

Thank you to Ada Area Manufacturers
James Eldridge with the Ada Jobs Foundation and Cody Holcomb with the City of Ada thank Dan Marshall of Superior Fabrication/Tri-Point for choosing to manufacture and invest in Ada, Oklahoma

Ada boasts a great community of local manufacturers who serve a vital role for the community by diversifying the local economy and creating wealth. We are closing out the year by visiting several Ada area manufacturers. With these visits, we are delivering a small gift to the owners or plant managers as well as a message of "thank you" for the contributions they make to the local economy.

These visits are also serving as a lead up to the launch of a local Business Retention and Expansion (BR&E) program in Ada. This program will consist of visiting local companies which primarily sell to markets outside of Pontotoc County. This will include local manufacturers as well as local service and technology companies with a state, national, or international presence. The visits will consist of a survey as well as a chance to talk to the plant owner or manager about concerns, accomplishments, and any other relevant information. This program is designed to help staff at the Ada Jobs Foundation analyze the survey data and address immediate issues. Ultimately, the program should help build relationships, improve communication, and prepare the community for future growth and expansion of our local companies.

There are important reasons to focus on helping our local, export-focused industries. The visits allow for more communication with local companies, which then allows for more opportunities to promote success and address concerns. As many company needs may be outside the scope of the economic development staff's work, local and state service providers may be called on to help, which in turn creates better "pathways" of assisting local companies grow.
Wishing You an Economically Prosperous New Year!
Thank you to the community, businesses, and partners who have shown their support for economic development this year.  We are truly grateful for your support and wish you a wonderful holiday season and economically prosperous New Year!
