On May 13, The Seward House Museum
will be commemorating the 150th anniversary of Mr. Seward's fortuna te folly: the acquisition of Alaska. The community is invited to gather with leaders from New York and Alaska for the unveiling of a new statue of Seward.  The statue arrives in Auburn from the State Department in Washington before embarking on a western transcontinental railroad journey. Shadowing Seward's own movements, the statue is ultimately bound for Juneau, Alaska, where it will thereafter grace the State House grounds.  The public is also invited to a free Artist's workshop that afternoon.Tickets are also being sold for the Glacier Gala, held at the 1840 Dulles Inn, later that evening .   READ MORE

As part of his State of the City message Mayor Michael D. Quill invited the public to participate in the design of the new downtown welcome center, a project that will be a new chapter in downtown Auburn's economic renaissance.
A new downtown welcome center is slated to be located on City-owned land at 25 South Street in Auburn.
As part of the design process a special webpage has been added to the City's website that will provide an online location for the public to keep up to date on the project and provide their ideas for the design of the welcome center and the downtown neighborhood it will be a part of. This webpage can be found at the following link:

The Harriet Tubman Downtown Memorial Committee (HTDMC) kicked-off its fundraising campaign with a dessert reception on March 31. The mission of HTDMC is to commission an artist to create a memorial sculpture in honor of Harriet Tubman to publicly proclaim Auburn's pride in being Tubman's chosen home for over 50 years; to raise awareness of Tubman's contributions to Auburn and her lifelong work as a champion of human rights, and to inspire future generations through her courageou s e xample.  The Committee is also working to fund additional community projects, artwork and opportunities that will honor Tubman, as they continue to meet their goal.   A website has been created to share information and facilitate electronic donations:  http://honorharrietauburnny.com
