Over 160 elected officials and community business people attended the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce State of the City and County luncheon on March 30. Held at the Holiday Inn, attendees heard presentati
ons from Mayor Michael Quill, City Manager Jeff Dygert, and County Chairman Keith Batman.
The event was a great opportunity to for people to hear about the upcoming tourism projects, infrastructure initiatives as well as city and county employment changes. This annual luncheon was sponsored by:

On May 13,
The Seward House Museum
will be commemorating the 150th anniversary of Mr. Seward's fortuna
te folly: the acquisition of Alaska. The community is invited to gather with leaders from New York and Alaska for the unveiling of a new statue of Seward. The statue arrives in Auburn from the State Department in Washington before embarking on a western transcontinental railroad journey. Shadowing Seward's own movements, the statue is ultimately bound for Juneau, Alaska, where it will thereafter grace the State House grounds. As part of his State of the City message Mayor Michael D. Quill invited the public to participate in the design of the
new downtown welcome center, a project that will be a new chapter in downtown Auburn's economic renaissance.
A new downtown welcome center is slated to be located on City-owned land at 25 South Street in Auburn.
As part of the design process a special webpage has been added to the City's website that will provide an online location for the public to keep up to date on the project and provide their ideas for the design of the welcome center and the downtown neighborhood it will be a part of. The Harriet Tubman Downtown Memorial Committee (HTDMC) kicked-off its fundraising campaign with a dessert reception on March 31. The mission of HTDMC is to
commission an artist to create a memorial sculpture in honor of Harriet Tubman to publicly
proclaim Auburn's pride in being Tubman's chosen home for over 50 years; to raise awareness of Tubman's contributions to Auburn and her lifelong work as a champion of human rights, and to inspire future generations through her courageou
s e
xample. The Committee is also working to fund additional community projects, artwork and opportunities that will honor

Currier Plastics is investing in 2 new Extrusion Blow Molding Machines in the 2nd quarter of 2017. The machines are manufactured by
Magic mp s.p.a
and are the custom molder's second and third all electric
extrusion blow molding machines that Currier has purchased. "The Magic machines by design will give us more machine capacity because we can use our existing molds, heads and secondary automation," says Steve Crawford, Blow Molding Engineering Manager. "We needed more of this size machine to support our growing business in the medical and consumer care markets,"
