Pine Lake Preparatory Theatre Presents:

February Staff Members of the Month

Introducing...Leonardo

Introducing....Leonardo by Andrew Chase. This new statue will be on permanent display in the Pine Lake STEM building and is meant to represent a connection between the arts, science, math, engineering, and technology. The statue took 4 months to build, and is made from 100% recycled parts. He has moveable joints that allows him to stand, crouch, sit, or pounce. The name Leonardo is a direct reference to Leonardo DaVinci a sculptor, scientist, architect, inventor, painter, biologist, and philosopher. DaVinci created the world's first robot, a lion, for the King of France in 1515. Check out some of Andrew's other incredible work at  Andrewchase.com  This masterpiece was only possible through a few families underwriting this permanent fixture of inspiration and wonder.

Before the unveiling, the anticipation built at school. Mr. Walker put a speaker inside the box so the box "roared" periodically as if there were a live animal inside. It was fun watching the students' faces go from surprise to uncertainty to amusement. :-)

Art Scholarships

Joey Marcus has been doing an independent study with Mr. Suarez in 3d modeling and animation this year. So far, Joey has already been offered a $60,000 scholarship to East Tennessee State University, and a $64,000 scholarship to Columbus College of Art and Design. WOW!!

Joey approached Mr. Suarez last year with his request for the independent study for his senior year. He had to present his plan for what he wanted to achieve, which Mr. Suarez accepted, and the two meet daily during Mr. Suarez's planning period for the study.

Motivated students + dedicated teachers = exciting post-graduation opportunities!

STEM Family Night a Big Success

STEM Family Night was a well-attended, hands-on, enlightening success! Dr. Vince Bertram encouraged students to think broadly about their career path, choose fields of study carefully, and to embrace educational opportunities. STEM teachers from each school hosted activities that were led BY students FOR students. Kudos to Lori Reuter, Jeff Walker, and all who played a part in this fun, educational evening.
