Happy February! Hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day. This month, I am excited to tell you about FREE assistive technology learning opportunities in Southern California and some great FREE online and downloadable assistive technologies.

FREE TASK Programs

Our new Voice Options program is going wonderfully. If you haven't already heard, Voice Options is a pilot project that connects Californians with speech and language disabilities to iPads with speech apps.

TECH Connection is TASK's social, life and communication skills groups for ages 12 and up. We meet the third Wednesday of each month at 4:00 pm in our Anaheim office. The program is FREE for all TASK members. Membership is only $35.00 per year, per family!

If you are interested in participating in either program, please contact Laura Simmons-Martinez at (866) 828-8275 or at laurasm@taskca.org . Be sure to mention which program you are interested in.
FREE Admission to Exhibit Halls

Get your hands on lots of different assistive technologies at this year's CSUN Technology and Persons with Disabilities Conference. Exhibits are FREE, but you must register. The Exhibit Hall will be brimming with assistive technology vendors of all types, waiting to show you their products.

Abilities Expo comes to Los Angeles, March 24th, 25th and 26th. Imagine everything you need, all under one roof! For nearly 40 years, Abilities Expo has been the go-to source for the community of people with disabilities, their families, seniors, veterans and healthcare professionals. Every event opens your eyes to new technologies, new possibilities, new solutions and new opportunities to change your life. Where else can you discover ability-enhancing products and services, play a few adaptive sports, learn new dance moves, attend informative workshops and only scratch the surface of what Abilities Expo has to offer? Admission to the show is FREE, but you must register. Come visit TASK at our booth #437! See you there!
FREE Technology!

Talk for Me - Text to Speech
Not being able to speak on your own is difficult. Talk For Me - Text to Speech, designed and engineered by a person who lost the ability to speak, seeks to make your life easier. Type in the main text area or tap one of the six main custom buttons, and your iOS device will talk for you. Want to set up more custom phrases? Swipe up and up again for more pages with custom editable buttons. Need even more? Save phrases in an archive database. This is great for saving partial sentences. A quick swipe left, select a sentence from your archive and it will appear in the main window ready for you to complete. Turn on the Auto Speech Function to have every word spoken as you enter it. Together with keyboard shortcuts, predictive text and your custom phrases, this app will allow you to communicate with ease.
