Urgent Support Needed to Ease Famine in South Sudan

IMA World Health

Starving Sudanese child embraced by his mother.

The Interchurch Medical Assistance (IMA) World Health, a faith-based organization that has strengthened health care and provided critical medical services in South Sudan since 2008, is asking churches and individuals for urgent financial support to increase its response to widespread starvation in the world's newest nation.
South Sudan declared its independence from Sudan in 2011 after a long, devastating civil war. Unfortunately, peace was short-lived. In 2013, violent conflict broke out between warring factions within South Sudan's government, uprooting millions of people from their homes, gardens, herds and livelihoods.
In February, the United Nations' World Food Programme officially declared famine in South Sudan. Nearly 5 million men, women and children are at immediate risk of starvation. IMA has established networks and staff that are working around the clock to address urgent nutrition and health needs, but resources are in short supply.
Your donations to IMA will provide the following:
- Food, medicines and supplies: Purchasing and distributing therapeutic food to treat malnutrition, oral rehydration therapy for dehydration and essential medicines to treat malaria and other infections that are exacerbated by famine conditions
- Prefabricated and mobile health clinics: Serving remote communities in need of urgent nutrition support and basic medical care
- Emergency grants to partners: Sharing resources with well-known local partner organizations that serve the most critical areas.
Please give online (and download bulletin inserts and other worship resources) at
https://imaworldhealth.org/help-south-sudan
. Checks can be sent to IMA World Health, 1730
