Coach Wayne Hardin, a 2013 College Football Hall of Fame inductee who led the programs at Navy and Temple, passed away April 12. Born March 23, 1926, in Smackover, Ark., he was 91. He had just taken part in Temple Football alumni day festivities on Saturday, April 8, with more than 120 former Owls on hand.

The most successful coach in Temple football history and the coach of Navy's only two Heisman Trophy winners, Hardin created a Hall of Fame career, leading the Midshipmen and Owl programs to unprecedented accomplishments. He amassed an overall head coaching record of 118-74-5.
April 19, State of College Athletics Forum: The Big 12 Conference will host its sixth  State of College Athletics Forum on Wednesday, April 19, at the Hall of Fame. This edition of the forum will focus on the topic of "Race and College Athletics." Emceed by SEC Network studio analyst Tony Barnhart, the Forum will be streamed live on ESPN3. Participants on the panel will include Big 12 Commissioner and NFF Board Member Bob Bowlsby, West Virginia athletics director Shane Lyons and College Football Hall of Famer and current ESPN analyst Mark May, among others.

The Blitz
NFF Board Members and College Football Hall of Famers Troy Aikman (UCLA) and Roger Staubach (Navy) are working to help the Children's Cancer Fund gross more than $1 million at its annual gala April 21 at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas.

NFF Board Member and College Football Hall of Famer Archie Griffin (Ohio State) and Hall of Fame coach Fred Martinelli (Ashland [Ohio]) accepted Ohio's Finest awards during Ohio State's annual football coaches clinic.

NFF Board Member and recently retired Chick-fil-A Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer Steve Robinson will speak July 21 at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark., as part of the Northwest Arkansas 2017 Speaker Series. 

College Football Hall of Famer Doc Blanchard (Army) and Hall of Fame coach Fisher DeBerry (Air Force)  will be inducted  into the State of South Carolina Football Hall of Fame on April 20. Former South Carolina State wide receiver Charlie Brown, former Clemson defensive end Levon Kirkland and former Furman and NC State Head Coach Dick Sheridan will also be inducted.

College Football Hall of Famer and 1987 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Gordie Lockbaum (Holy Cross)  will be inducted  into the Eastern College Athletic Conference Hall of Fame April 28. NFF Board Member Jack Ford will emcee the induction ceremony, which will take place at the Matrix Conference & Banquet Center in Danbury, Conn.

NCAA Executive Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and 1981 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Oliver Luck (West Virginia) will address bowl executive directors and personnel at the Football Bowl Association's annual meeting on April 18 in San Antonio.


NFF Program Updates

The NFF Scholar-Athlete of the Day, presented by Fidelity Investments, is a daily segment honoring the semifinalists for the 2016  William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments. Today's honoree is  Wisconsin-Stout offensive tackle Logan Stoa, who maintains a 3.42 GPA in business administration.
Over The Middle
The NFF Tom Lombardo/St. Louis Chapter will host its monthly luncheon on April 19 at Lombardo's restaurant. The guest speaker will be Missouri head coach  Barry Odom.

The NFF Texas Tech Chapter will host its scholar-athlete banquet April 19 at the Overton Hotel in Lubbock, Texas. The chapter will distribute $40,000 in scholarships.

The NFF Wisconsin Chapter's scholar-athlete recognition will take place April 21 at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery in Madison prior to the Wisconsin spring game.

The NFF East Tennessee Chapter  will hold its scholar-athlete awards brunch April 22 at The Foundry in Knoxville, Tenn., before Tennessee's spring game. Former Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer will receive the 2017 Neyland Trophy while longtime North Carolina play-by-play announcer and 2011 NFF Chris Schenkel Award recipient Woody Durham will receive the Lindsey Nelson Broadcasting Award.

The NFF Central Indiana Chapter will hold its scholar-athlete banquet April 22 at the Colts practice facility in Indianapolis. New Indiana head coach Tom Allen will be the guest speaker.

The NFF National Capital (D.C.) Chapter will host its 11th annual scholar-athlete banquet April 23 at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va. The chapter will honor 45 high school and three collegiate scholar-athlete while distributing thousands of dollars in scholarships.

The NFFCHOF Bill Dooley (N.C.) Chapter will hold its scholar-athlete banquet April 24 at the Pete & Lynn Murphy Center on the campus of East Carolina University. ECU radio play-by-play voice  Jeff Charles will emcee and ECU head coach  Scottie Montgomery will be the guest speaker.

The NFF Corrigan/Faircloth (N.C.) Chapter will host its scholar-athlete banquet April 25 at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, N.C. Former Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer will be the guest speaker.

The NFF Brian Piccolo (Fla.) Chapter will have its scholar-athlete banquet April 26 at the Heron Bay Marriott in Coral Springs, Fla. Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher will be the guest speaker.

The NFF Moose Krause (Ind.) Chapter scholar-athlete banquet is scheduled for April 26 at St. Hedwigs Banquet Hall in South Bend, Ind. 

The NFF Passaic County (N.J.) Chapter will hold its scholar-athlete banquet April 26 at the Mountainside Inn in Clifton, N.J.

2016 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Carter Hanson  (Saint John's [Minn.]) will receive the 2017 Stein-Fallon Scholar-Athlete Award from the NFF Minnesota Chapter at the 10th annual Minnesota Football Awards, presented by the Minnesota Vikings, May 7 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
