A message from The Rev. Ernie Boyer ...

For we are God's servants, working together; you are God's field, God's building. I Cor. 3:39

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

These two verses perfectly capture for me what I see happening here at St. Stephen's. The first verse describes what we are doing, the second where we are going. The phrase that links them is "working together."

Last Sunday the Vestry and Search Committee gathered for what turned out to be an amazing meeting. The group learned that the parish is facing serious financial challenges. Rather than let that get us down, though, the group's response was one of energetic resolve and confident determination. Yes, there are difficulties, but what became clear is that this will prove no match for St. Stephen's many strengths - no match for its enthusiasm or its hope; no match for its dedication to Jesus; no match for the love we at St. Stephen have for one another - no match, that is, for St. Stephen's determination to bring its enthusiasm and its hope, its dedication and its love all together for the glory of God and the service of those in need.

As one person in the group put it: "I don't intend this to be a time when we all just sit in a holding pattern. I want this to be a time of renewal."

Renewal it will be!

All we need to do is work together as God's servants - all of us, every one. We are God's church after all, God's field. It is God who is cultivating us so we will certainly bear fruit. And it is when we all work together for God, that things work together for good. That is what's happening here at St. Stephen's. Just watch and see.

Peace and grace,

Ernie

Friday Journal editor needed.....

Please let Father Ernie know if you would be interested in a volunteer position at St. Stephen's to edit and publish the weekly Friday Journal, or possibly a monthly newsletter with updates as needed throughout the month.  Experience with Constant Contact is a plus, but we could train you.  We are working to simplify the format of the newsletter, and are open to new ideas.  We estimate that the time requirement is 2 to 3 hours per week and it can be done from home.

Let us know what you think.....
This Friday Journal has a new format.  Please let us know what you think by responding to office@ssitf.org

Calero HIgh School Life Skills Students helping St. Stephen's
by Janet Thorsrud

This week the students from Calero High School started to clean out one of the garden plots that couldn't be used because of over growth. Next time we work in the community garden they will try to dig up a rose bush and move it to our rose garden that Wanda has been tending.

All 5 students met Father Ernie and had meaningful conversations about what God looks like. Then they got to meet Emil and his 4-legged friend Sara.

The "gang" swept and raked leaves under the oak tree and around our parking lot to get ready for Bishop Mary's visit.

Next week we will have a Christmas party where they will put together gingerbread houses and eat pumpkin pie before they go outside to help us keep our church looking well-cared for.

We are thankful for this group as they work with us and that we can help them get ready to be productive people in society.

Hey my friends,

You gave back a little over $400 to St Stephen's this month!!! Give yourselves a pat on the back.

Moving forward the next order will be placed on January 7th.

Imagine what we could do if everyone ordered. No budget problems.

See you Sunday
