Here's what you need to know about LB461.

LB461 would do little for average Nebraskans
Dear Nonprofit Family,

The Revenue Committee recently advanced LB461, a package of income and property tax cuts that, as amended, would cost the state $458 million a year when fully implemented.
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LB461:
  • LB461 is a bill that will significantly reduce state revenue, and will be debated by the full legislature on April 21.
  • LB461 will harm communities across the state by reducing funding for public education, public safety, health care, job training and transportation infrastructure; all critical for strong economic development.
Lawmakers are trying to balance the budget on the backs of hard-working Nebraskans instead of asking everyone to pay their fair share.
  • Cuts to income taxes reduce revenue available to fund education, health care, public safety and other programs while likely forcing schools, cities, counties, and other local governments to increase property taxes to make up for the loss of revenue.
  • The proposal provides meager tax relief for middle-income Nebraskans.
  • Ultimately, it is a huge reduction of state revenue, reducing about $458 million annually from the state budget when fully implemented. That's more than both the corrections and state patrol budgets combined.
TAKE ACTION NOW:
  • We encourage you to call your senator and ask him/her to vote NO on LB461. You may also send an email opposing LB461 from this website.
On April 25, the legislature will take up debate on the state's budget.

To help you better understand the state budget, OpenSky Policy Institute is planning two budget briefing sessions - one in Omaha, one in Lincoln - to share information about Nebraska's two-year, $8.9 billion budget bill.

The Omaha briefing will be Monday, April 24 at 3 pm in the Andersen Hospitality Room at the University of Omaha Nebraska Thompson Alumni Center (6705 Dodge St). Parking is available onsite. This session will feature a briefing from OpenSky staff members.

The Lincoln briefing will be Thursday, April 27 at 8 am in the downstairs conference room of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska Lincoln Office (1233 Lincoln Mall). Parking is available at Trinity Lutheran Church (724 S. 12th St). The Lincoln briefing will feature a discussion about the state budget with Appropriations Chair Sen. John Stinner.
