Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Instructor: Tracy Smith-Carrier
Implications of the massive demographic shift to an aging population in Canada demand that social workers be effectively equipped to work with older adults. Are you prepared to work with the elderly?
The need for gerontological social work is expected to increase significantly as the population ages. To serve this population effectively we have to become aware of the diversity and heterogeneity of the aging population, as well as common physical, mental and social health issues in aging and the relevant systems of care. This course will introduce students to aging using theoretical, research and practice knowledge. The purpose of this course is to highlight key issues that face older adults, as well as social workers and other professionals who will serve them.
