American Osteopathic College of Radiology Announces Dr. Bruce Wolf as 67th President
The American Osteopathic College of Radiology (AOCR) announced the installment of their 67th President, Bruce Wolf, DO, FAOCR. Dr. Wolf was inaugurated as President, Wednesday, April 4, 2017 at the AOCR Annual Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada. "I am honored to be installed as the 67th President of the AOCF. I look forward to the challenges and serving our members in the coming year," said Dr. Wolf.

Dr. Wolf, a graduate of Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University, is Assistant Professor of Interventional Radiology at Michigan State University. He became an Active Member of the AOCR in 2001 and was awarded Fellowship in the AOCR in 2013. He has served on the AOCR Board of Directors since 2013 and has served on numerous AOCR committees. In addition, Dr. Wolf currently serves as President of the Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) and as the Second Vice President of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

DOs take on Capitol Hill to rally Congressional support for GME
The annual, DO Day on Capitol Hill was a resounding success as "whitecoats" marched on Capitol Hill in record numbers. DO Day on Capitol Hill, an annual spring event, is an opportunity for DOs and osteopathic medical students to come to Washington, D.C. to interact and educate members of Congress and their staff on who DOs are and why osteopathic medicine is so vital to the healthcare community. Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) Board members Stephen R. Bell, DO, and Andrew Adair, DO, took time from their practices to participate.

AOA Annual Business Meeting
The Annual American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Business Meeting will be held July 17 - 23, 2017 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile Hotel. Please mark these dates on your calendar if you intend to serve as a Michigan Delegate during the AOA House of Delegates (HOD). The AOA HOD will convene its annual business meeting Friday, July 21 and conclude its sessions Sunday, July 23, 2017.
Delegates will be chosen at the MOA House of Delegates on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Westin Southfield Detroit in conjunction with the Annual Spring Convention. More details regarding the AOA Annual Business Meeting to follow.

OCOMA Orchestrates new CME event
The Oakland County Osteopathic Medical Association (OCOMA) hosted a new social event that proved to be a fun way to earn CME while supporting another medical organization, the
Detroit Medical Orchestra (DMO). Guests were picked up at two locations in Oakland county to enjoy a limousine bus ride to an afternoon orchestra performance. On the trip down and back, two lectures were provided by speakers Mary Jo Voelpel, DO and Mary Goldman, DO. Dr. Voelpel spoke on keeping the mind sharp while aging, while Dr. Goldman spoke on posture techniques and stretches for doctors and patients alike.
After arriving on the Wayne State campus, guests enjoyed listening to the Detroit Medical Orchestra (DMO) play an afternoon concert. The DMO is a non-profit organization comprised of student doctors, attending physicians, other medical professionals and friends of the orchestra. Their mission is to provide healing through music. They perform 4-5 performances per season at Wayne State University, all of which are free to the public. The DMO accepts donations for their performances to support their mission and to raise funds for each featured medical charity.
For the CME-Bus event on March 19th, the DMO performed a collection of chamber pieces; small groups of various instruments. The music provided an opportunity for the guests in attendance to find healing through music, something most physicians find useful these days. A reception followed where guests could enjoy assorted desserts and lemonade. Then everyone returned to the bus for the leisurely ride back and the second lecture. Overall, the event succeeded its goals of providing unique CME in a unique location in combination with a social event for OCOMA members and their guests. In addition, OCOMA was excited to collaborate with the DMO with proceeds of the concert supporting the orchestra along with the featured charity,
ALS of Michigan.
OCOMA thanks its speakers and participants who helped make this first-of-its-kind event a success. In the future, OCOMA hopes to provide more opportunities like this one, for a fun day in the city, to its members.

With the national healthcare discussion focused on the efforts to "Repeal and Replace Obamacare", a variety of major policy initiatives have been proposed, discussed, and advanced in the first days of the Trump administration. The Michigan Health Policy Forum will review the first 100 days of the Trump administration. The Forum will be held at Eagle Eye Golf Course located 3 miles north of the MSU campus. Dr. Gail Wilensky will serve as the keynote speaker to provide an insider's overview of the proposals under discussion and the impact they will have on the health care community and patients in Michigan.

The Doctors Company Announces 2017 Member Dividend for MOA Members
The Doctors Company, the nation's largest physician-owned medical malpractice insurer, and the exclusively endorsed carrier for the Michigan Osteopathic Association has announced a $26 million dividend, which is made possible by the excellent claims experience of The Doctors Company's members. Since 1976, The Doctors Company has paid nearly $400 million in dividends, and 2017 marks the 12th year in a row that the company has awarded dividends. The 2017 dividend, approved by The Doctors Company's Board of Governors, will provide a premium reduction of 10 percent to eligible members of the Michigan Osteopathic Association. Eligible members will receive this year's dividend on their annual premium for policy renewals on or after July 1, 2017.

ACOFP Annonuces Master Preceptor Awards
Two Michigan physicians will receive the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) Master Preceptor Award for their dedication to educating MSUCOM students and for their exemplary contributions to osteopathic education.
James Taylor, DO, who practices in Jackson, and Stephen Swetech, DO, who practices in Clinton Township, received the awards in March at the ACOFP Convention and Scientific Seminars in Kissimmee, Florida.
As longtime participants in the MSUCOM student preceptorship program and clinical faculty members, Taylor and Swetech have mentored hundreds of students over more than 20 years.

New MAPS System Instructions
REGISTERING FOR MAPS:
Enter your first and last name and the health professional license you hold (i.e. MD, DO, DDS, PA, Pharmacist, etc.), click enter.
Use the License ID number for your MAPS registration.
To verify your controlled substance ID or number, go to the verify license site and instead of clicking on your specific health profession, select Pharmacy (CS licenses are issued under the Board of Pharmacy).
The controlled substance ID or number will appear on the screen and that is the number you will use.
Some licensees will have either the same health professional license number as their controlled substance license number and some may have two different numbers. About 7 years ago the department changed how license numbers were randomly created for MD, DO, DPM, DDS, and DVM. Again, if you have the same license number for both the professional and controlled substance licenses that is fine as likely both licenses may have been issued prior to system changes.
Each license number is a 10 digit number with the following prefix of two numbers for each profession. For Osteopathic Medicine/Surgery (DO), the 2 digit prefix is: 51

DEA Registration (If you have more than one, may provide additional DEA Registrations)*
