Annual Spring Show May 19th-21st

Special Collage Workshop by Jill Pottle on June 11th

NEW FOR SPRING SHOW!

This year's Spring Show we are eliminating the Silent Auction. We will be replacing it with "OFF THE WALL ART SALE." You may donate one or more pieces of art. Pieces must be exactly 5"x7" in size, and do not have to be framed. Put your name and title on the back of the piece. If not framed, GALA will then frame the pieces and all pieces will be $60 to purchase. The artist & GALA will each receive 50% of the sale proceeds. Please create some pieces to donate for THE WALL and you may bring them during drop off. This will be fun!

PROFFESSIONAL CRITIQUES (OPTION): At the Spring Show we are allowing you to purchase a professional art critique of your entries in the show. On the Entry Form it will ask if you would like a critique. It will cost $20 per piece. You will receive a critique from all three judges and it will be mailed to you in 10 business days. This is an option and is not mandatory, only if you would like some professional feedback.

We are always looking for VOLUNTEERS to help with the shows. We are also looking for someone to be our Event Coordinator. Would you like to serve on the board? Please call me if you want to join our fun crew at 978-407-1419!

Sincerely,

Deb Giordano
President of GALA

GALA Renovations Update

In response to the February GALA newsletter, we were delighted to see some participation in the GoFundMe campaign. Thanks! We will use these funds to make GALA's space truly special: lighting system, flooring, artwork hanging supplies, and sound equipment for our musicians.

A boost now would enable us to finance the improvements in time for our good weather open season. If 100 people donate $10, that gets us $1,000 closer. Any amount helps! For this campaign, use this link, GoFundMe, or if you prefer, mail a check to GALA, PO Box 664, Gardner, MA  01440, with GALA Arts Gallery Project in the subject line.

See a photo gallery of our project. Spread the word and help us reach this goal for 2017! Show Your Support Now!

GALA Presents May Basket Workshop
GALA Arts Gallery, Winchendon, MA

Saturday, April 8, 2017, 10 am - 12 pm
Free & Open to the Public!

Keep the Tradition Going!

May Day Baskets in the 19th and 20th Centuries was a springtime tradition in America and other countries. Having but disappeared from our culture, this spring ritual of making and giving little floral baskets filled with candies, nuts, flowers, or little presents, people today know little or nothing about. Traditionally secretly given to someone you love to receive a special surprise. Participants in the workshop will learn of the custom and create May Baskets using traditional colorful crepe paper floral techniques. Originality will be encouraged for future creations. Open to all age levels.

Motherbones: Tribute to Alice S Rossi
Presenting recent works by Nina Rossi at the Burnett Gallery, Jones Library during April. Come see a tabletop band of musicians called The Anchovies; The Shoes of Turners Falls; and other weirdly original work.

"I enjoy the mystifying way that decisions in the artistic realm feel like foregone conclusions in some deep part of the brain where the architect of my dreams is cooking up a lunch of tasty little ideas. I also explore compositional urges inspired more by materials than by ways of seeing. Idea and form progress in tandem to conclusions influenced by a large inventory of castaways."~nina
