Imagine enthusiastic young women learning in a lab about genomics, its impact on healthcare and real-world applications from the world leaders in this research at Illumina. Based right here in San Diego, Illumina is a global company advancing our understanding of genetics and health, enabling studies that were not even imaginable just a few years ago and moving us closer to the realization of personalized medicine.
Last month I highlighted the Fleet's suite of programs geared toward women in STEM and today I am excited to tell you that the girls in our BE WiSE (Better Education for Women in Science and Engineering) program will be going to the Illumina campus for a special workshop followed by a panel discussion where employees will speak about their education and career paths.
Getting the news about this session was a nice holiday gift for the girls in BE WiSE. It is one of several potentially life-changing opportunities the Fleet offers students through partnerships with local STEM companies. Opportunities like this help us reach the program's ultimate goal of sparking a passion for STEM and STEM careers in girls grade 7-12.
