During the afternoon on Friday, you are invited to take advantage of the expertise of ASIPP’s  Counsel to prepare you to not only contact and share concerns with your local representatives, but also prepare you to join ASIPP when we visit our Senators and Congressmen in Washington, DC.

This is your time to learn the issues that affect Interventional Pain Management and more importantly, learn how to express your concerns to local, state and national lawmakers.

ASIPP has been extremely effective in being heard on the Hill. We have been able to have our concerns not only voiced but addressed by legislation. ASIPP has been able to turn the tide on some bills to help, instead of hurt, the future of IPM.

Join the winning team! Start at this year’s annual meeting. Senator and Randi Hutchinson, and Congressman Ed Whitfield and Jeff MacKinnon will all be paired off in two rooms available to you at 30 minute intervals Friday afternoon from 1 pm to 5 pm

These slots are available on a first come, first serve basis and limited to six people per half-hour session. Perfect for you to sign up with doctors from your practice or even members from your state!

Sign up sheets will be available at the ASIPP booth at the annual meeting.

Cardinal Health’s $6.1 Billion Deal for Some Medtronic Operations Raises Debt Concerns

Cardinal said it will fund the acquisition with $4.5 billion in new debt plus existing cash.

The move prompted Fitch Ratings to voice concerns over Cardinal’s debt and lower its outlook on the health-care services company. That, combined with a dimmed outlook from Dublin, Ohio-based Cardinal sent shares tumbling 13% premarket to $71.40.

MACRA’s future? Tom Price wants doctors’ ideas for Medicare payment models

If you have ideas for innovative Medicare payment models, new Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tom Price wants to hear them. Price asked doctors to recommend payment alternatives to fee-for-service models at a meeting earlier this week,  according to Bloomberg BNA. That could signal changes ahead for the payment system created under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA).

Innovative models could work better and might stop doctors from leaving the profession mid-career because of  burnout, Price said, while speaking before the first voting meeting of the Physician-Focused Payment Model Technology Advisory Committee, which was created under  MACRA, Bloomberg reported.

Mass. Study: Illicit Fentanyl Involved in Most Opioid Fatalities

The highly-potent, short-acting opiate fentanyl was involved in two-thirds of roughly 200 recent opioid overdose deaths occurring within a six-month period in southeast Massachusetts, researchers report.

A joint investigation by state public health officials and the CDC highlights the growing role of the drug, especially illegally manufactured "street" fentanyl, in the opioid epidemic.

It also emphasized the rapidly fatal nature of overdose deaths involving fentanyl, and the importance of educating users about the opioid-reversing medication naloxone and making it readily available.
