Marquette Catholic High School's Trading Lab has infused a little Wall Street into West 10th Street.
Its walls lined with iridescent tickers, the spacious room inside the Scholl Center provides students with stock quotes in real time. The Trading Lab has served more than just a cosmetic upgrade, though. Ms. Beth Golding's Global Trading course has utilized this and a number of digital resources to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
The Global Trading class features state-of-the-art StockTrak simulation software that empowers students to trade stocks, bonds, and other investment vehicles across 50 global stock exchanges with just a 15-minute delay. This past semester, Golding facilitated a competition in which her students began with a set amount of money in their portfolio with the intention of growing it over the span of the fall term.
Senior Hunter Yue used a final-week surge to claim first-place honors. He was followed by Evan Xu, Zoey Lin, and Kameron Edmonds. Edmonds led the competition for 13 weeks only to be upstaged on the last week. Scott Anderson took home fifth place.
Golding's Global Trading class is offered each semester at Marquette Catholic High School. In addition to her role as a business professor at Marquette, Golding also serves as business and computer technology instructor at Ivy Tech Community College, one of three institutions that partner with Marquette's University High School program. She earned her MBA from Purdue University in 2013.
