Running the race set before us ...   Heb 12:1

April 2017 #166

Dear friends,

A picture is worth a 1000 words, so lets try pictures...

A reliable vehicle...

We don't know how to express our gratitude to all of our donors. We reached our fundraising goal and have started the search for a new vehicle, a pickup truck :).

Child Sponsorship Program (CSP):
We now have 159 kids in the program. For $29 a month they are able to go to school, receive their school supplies and school books as well as their school uniform. Once a month we see them all at the same time, when they come to collect their supplement food parcel. We have about 20 children on the waitlist and could easily add another 20. Regularly we have caretakers and/or kids ask if they have a sponsor yet or if we can add them to the program. Hurricane Matthew and
Hope Shelters...
After hurricane Matthew affected the Southwest part of Haiti and people in our area were confronted with the aftermath, HFI started their Hope Shelter project. Since October, we have buit 12 shelters we have plans to build more. The reactions after moms receive a shelter are: "now we feel safe to sleep at night" or "now we can get married as we have a home"...
Of course we also continue to build more Houses of Hope.

Agriculture ...
The hurricane destroyed many crops and in December we spent an afternoon handing out different seeds to farmers in our area who had lost their crops. In this photo some of the farmers proudly show their crops growing. The harvest will be later than usual due to the hurricane. We hope to distribute more Corn Seeds in the next few weeks.
Friends and family coming to visit...
It was great to be able to share our life, work, ministry and the wonderful people of Sous Savanne with those we love... how special, what a blessings. Thank you for investing your time resources to come and check us out and work alongside us...

Prayer points:
  • For us that we will be able to take a day at a time, to look at what is most needed now and stay focused.
  • Marianne's deployment to Nepal April 14-29, HFI will take a diverse team to focus on, construction, dental, medical and counseling.
  • For the 2017 scheduled mission teams as well as potential other teams joining us in Sous Savanne.
 We are thankful for:
  • Our health.
  • The release of funding for the new vehicle, the individuals as well as churches who have so generously donated.
  • The money donated after hurricane Matthew for relief work.
  • For those involved in our work through HFI here in Haiti.
  • Our friends visits.
  • That by living and working in the Sous Savanne area, those we meet will see that our only security is in Christ our Lord.

In closing, we want to thank each one of you. We could not serve in Haiti without the support of our family, friends and churches. Thank you so much for lifting us up in prayer and reaching out to us. We feel loved and blessed.

Since the hurricane in October our Internet was barely functioning and if you have reached out to us but we have not written back, our apologies. We love to hear from you.
