Tour of the Scottish Rite Temple
1547 Lakeside Drive, Oakland
Wednesday, May 31st,
11 am
The Scottish Rite is a branch of Freemasonry, and has several origin stories dating to the 18th century. The luxurious and beautifully maintained Scottish Rite Temple of Oakland replaced an earlier Masonic structure, and was completed in 1927.
Many of us have attended concerts and other events here, but our docent-led tour will give us access to many private spaces. Although we will be primarily interested in the architecture, you will find more information on the complex and arcane organization of the Scottish Rite on their website,
http://oaklandscottishrite.com/
Meet in the lobby of the Temple at 11 am.
Followed by lunch across the street at the Lakeside Chalet
Admission by donation
Transportation: Walking distance from the Lake Merritt BART station. Limited street parking available.

|
On Saturday, March 25, ten TTN members and friends enjoyed a tour of the spectacular, color-filled QUILTS San Francisco 2017 show. Dianne McCutcheon, TTN member and quilter, led the tour highlighting the most spectacular works at the show and sharing her expertise in how the quilts were designed and executed. A special congratulations to Dianne for winning an honorable mention prize at the show for her art quilt "Reaching to the Sky: Chicago".
Thank you, Dianne, for an informative and very enjoyable tour.

Workshop: "Overcoming Political Stress"
May 27th, 2017
Hello, my name is
Maria Pedroza.
I moved to the U.S. from Argentina in 1988. The move initiated a transformation from being a mind centered psychoanalyst to becoming a heart centered shaman and a healer.
Lately, I am watching women being affected by the political news. It looks as if gains during the years of struggle for women's rights are at stake.
As women, our resources and strength can become limited by previous traumatic experiences. My life's work is to liberate ourselves from the deep wounds that we silently and courageously carry through our lives. I feel honored to use ancient knowledge shared by indigenous traditions to remove the traumatic energy trapped in the psyche, to liberate our feminine power.
After listening to the impact of the political climate on many of my friends and clients, I decided to offer a workshop.
What: "Overcoming Political Stress"
When: May 27th, 2017
Where: Bay Area (Address provided at registration)
Please feel free to contact me for more information:
[email protected] or by phone at (510)883-4182

San Francisco TED Talk Group
Just Starting Up
We like the TED Talk Discussion Group idea so much that we are forming one in San Francisco (copying those brilliant East Bay members :) The San Francisco group will gather once a month to watch a TED Talk and then discuss it.
Joan Varrone has offered to hold the discussions at her home. Those participating will take turns choosing the Talks and bringing snacks. The first discussion will take place on 4/26 from 7:00 to 8:30. If you are interested please contact
Gail Benton Shoemaker at
[email protected].
Have I Lived My Life
to the Fullest?
Now that many of us are in our seventies and eighties, TTNer
Lyn Richards
is interested in exploring with other TTN members
how this question personally affects them, as well as how you are addressing this issue.
I'm envisioning a leaderless small group, taking place in the East Bay, for as much time as participants want to delve into the topic. I see this as a small discussion group, closed to new members once we start going. It would take place on a weeknight evening, in rotating participants' homes.
Please respond to Lynn Richards,
[email protected] if you are interested, and let her know what you think of the whole idea.

Home Sharing Program
When You're Over Sixty
"There comes a time when you become really realistic about your finances," Ms. Tall said. "Also, when you get older, it's nice to have another person around." Read this interesting article about a home-sharing program for older renters that matches two art lovers in a two-bedroom in Morningshide Heights, New York. The article was sent in by long-time TTNer Mona Kreaden. For the full NY Times article click HERE.
