St.Sarkis Church Celebrates Christmas
|
|
On January 6th, Christmas Day Badarak was Celebrated by His Grace, Bishop Anoushavan, Vicar General. Following the Badarak was the Blessing of Water Service, symbolizing the baptism of Christ in the River Jordan. The Godfather of the Cross was Gary Nersessian, son of Krikor and Elizabeth Nersessian and grandson of Sarkis and Adrine Nersessian and an altar server almost every
Sunday
at St. Sarkis Church.
As the service concluded parishioners received their blessed water and were graciously greeted by our Ladies Guild who had prepared a lovely Fellowship Hour.
A small group of our
Saturday
School students performed a few songs that warmed our hearts. We thank our Ladies Guild for their ongoing support and dedication.

THE FIRST EPISTLE OF ST. PAUL TO TIMOTHY (1:1-11 )
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope,
To Timothy my true son in the faith:
Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work-which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.
We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers-and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.
ՊՕՂՈՍ ԱՌԱՔԵԱԼԻ Ա. ՆԱՄԱԿԸ ՏԻՄՈԹԷՈՍԻ (1:1-11 )
Ես Պօղոս, որ Քրիստոս Յիսուսի առաքեալն եմ՝ մեր փրկիչ Աստուծոյ եւ մեր յոյսը եղող Քրիստոս Յիսուսի հրամանով, քեզի՛ կը գրեմ, հաւատքի հարազատ որդիս, Տիմոթէոս։ Թող Հայրն Աստուած եւ մեր Տէրը Քրիստոս Յիսուս՝ շնորհք, ողորմութիւն եւ խաղաղութիւն պարգեւեն քեզի։
Երբ Մակեդոնիա կ՚երթայի, խնդրեցի որ Եփեսոս մնաս եւ խօսիս քանի մը հոգիներու, որպէսզի դադրին օտար վարդապետութիւններ ուսուցանելէ եւ չզբաղին սկիզբ ու վերջ չունեցող առասպելներով եւ ազգահամարներով, որոնք վէճերու դուռ կը բանան, փոխանակ օգնելու մարդոց հաւատքին եւ Աստուծոյ ծրագրին իրականացման։ Գերագոյն պատուիրանը սէրն է. անարատ սրտէ, մաքուր խղճմտանք է եւ անկեղծ հաւատքէն բղխած սէրը։ Շատեր այս պատուէրները մոռցած, դատարկ վիճաբանութեանց մէջ մտնելով՝ մեզի Օրէնք սորվեցնելու ելեր են, մինչդեռ ո՛չ իրենց խօսածը գիտեն, ո՛չ ալ Աստուծոյ Օրէնքը, որուն մասին այս քան վստահութեամբ կը ճառեն։
Գիտենք թէ Օրէնքը լաւ է՝ երբ պէտք եղած ձեւով գործադուի։ Սակայն գիտենք նաեւ, թէ Օրէնքը արդարներւոն համար դրուած չէ, այլ՝ անօրէններուն եւ անհնազանդներուն, ամբարիշտներուն ու մեղաւորներուն, սրբութիւնները ոտնակոխ ընողներուն ու պիղծերուն, հայր ու մայր անարգողներուն, մարդասպաններուն, պոռնըկութիւն ընողներուն, արուագէտներուն, մարդ առեւանգողներուն, ստախօսներուն, սուտ երդում ընողներուն, եւ բոլոր այդ արարքներուն համար, որոնք հակառակ են իմ փոխանցած առողջ ուսուցումներուս. պատուէրներու, որոնք համաձայն են երանելի Աստուծոյ փառքը պատմող Աւետարանին, որ ես հաւատարմօրէն քարոզեցի։
THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO JOHN (2:1-11)
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine.: And Jesus said to her, "Woman what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward." So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. "But you have kept the good wine until now." Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
ՅԻՍՈՒՍ ՔՐԻՍՏՈՍԻ ԱՒԵՏԱՐԱՆ ԸՍՏ ՅՈՎՀԱՆՆՈՒ (2:1-11)
Յիսուսի Գալիլեա հասնելուն երրորդ օրը հարսանիք մը կար Կանա քաղաքին մէջ: Յիսուս, իր մայրը եւ աշակերտներն ալ հրաւիրուած էին հարսանիքին: Երբ գինին պակսեցաւ, Յիսուսի մայրը իրեն ըսաւ. «Գինի չունին»: «Մա՛յր, ինծի այս մասին ըսելու պէտք չունիս», պատասխանեց Յիսուս, իմ ժամանակս տակաւին չէ հասած»: Սակայն իր մայրը ըսաւ սպասաւորներուն. «ինչ որ ըսէ ձեզի, կատարեցէ՛ք»: Յիսուս ըսաւ սպասաւորներուն. «Կարասները ջուրով լեցուցէք»: Եւ սպասաւորները լեցուցին մինչեւ բերան: Յետոյ ըսաւ անոնց. «Հիմա առէք եւ սեղանապետին տարէք»: Անոնք ալ տարին: Սեղանապետը համտեսեց գինիի փոխուած ջուրը, բայց չգիտցաւ թէ ուրկէ էր. թէեւ սպասաւորները, որոնք ջուրը լեցուցած էին, գիտէին: Այն ատեն սեղանապետը փեսային ըսաւ. «Ամէն մարդ նախ ընտիր գինին կը հրամցնէ, իսկ երբ գինովնան, այն ատեն հասարակը, մինչ դուն ընտիր գինին պահեր ես մինչեւ հիմա»: Յիսուս իր այս առաջին հրաշքը կատարեց Գալիլեայի Կանա քաղաքին մէջ: Հոն ան իր փառքը յայտնեց, եւ աշակերտները հաւատացին իրեն»:

THE HERMITS: ANTHONY, TRYPHON, BARSAUMA, and ONOUPHRIUS
Tomorrow, Saturday, January 14, the Armenian Church remembers four early Christians, the Hermits Anthony, Tryphon, Barsauma, and Onouphrius.
Of the four hermit saints, Anthony is the best known. He lived during the time of our Lord and he heard the words spoken by Jesus to a wealthy young man advising, "If you will be perfect, go and sell all that you have and give it to the poor and come follow me." Anthony did exactly that, lived as a hermit, preached the teachings of Jesus and encouraged others to follow his example. The place he selected to live became the site of the first monastery; that is why he is recognized as the father of monasticism. Subsequently, many other brotherhoods were established throughout the world.
"Blessed among the fathers, Saint Anthony, who surpassed human nature, intercede before Christ for our souls. You spent many days without food, enduring voluntarily all the needs of the flesh; intercede before Christ for our souls. By your constant remembrance of us before Christ, be the helper of those who celebrate your memory that we also may receive praise."
