Hattiesburg City Council Candidate Inducted Into Graduate School Hall of Fame
|
|
The University of Southern Mississippi honored the contributions and accomplishments of its graduate students through the Graduate Schools third annual "Graduate School Appreciation Week," April 3-7. The week is kicked off by the unveiling of the Graduate School Hall of Fame on the second floor of the McCain Library and honors outstanding students for their research. The students are nominated by the deans from each of the university's academic colleges.
MSED student and candidate for Hattiesburg City Council, Jeffrey George, was selected by the Graduate School as the College of Business 2016-17 Graduate School Hall of Fame honoree for his contributions to USM through outstanding research; academic and scholarly accomplishments; and attitude/character. His portrait will be included in the Graduate Student Hall of Fame in McCain Library for the next year. "It's an honor to be inducted into the Graduate School Hall of Fame and be recognized for the research work I have done while working on my master's degree," George said. He continued, "Southern Miss has so many talented graduate students that are working on exciting and innovative research, so for my work in economic and workforce development to be recognized really means a lot to me."
Jeffrey's research in economic development has focused on studying economic and workforce trends to identify potential opportunities for workforce development, which will help the state of Mississippi to better prepare for our future. His research has focused on identifying the high demand industries to determine opportunities for education and training at the high school, technical college, community college, and university levels. Other research conducted includes the economic impact of various companies on the state and local economy of the areas in which these companies are located.
Jeffrey is originally from Covington, Louisiana and currently running for City Council in Hattiesburg to represent Ward 1.
