A Message From the Council President
I want to take this opportunity to share that our Scout Executive, Doug Nelson, has accepted a position to serve as the Scout Executive of Northeast Illinois Council located in Highland Park, Illinois.  Doug has served our council the past nearly 6 years and I know that he will be missed greatly.  During Doug's tenure with the Miami Valley Council, we reduced our debt (with a plan to eliminate it later this year), made countless improvements to both our camp properties, moved into a new Council Service Center that has dramatically increased the awareness of and support for Scouting in our communities, improved our program outcomes, increased our impact in the community, and most recently achieved Gold JTE status.  These, and many more, are all accomplishments that we can and should be proud of.  It has taken the work of many to achieve this, but I hope you join me in acknowledging the leadership, dedication and commitment that Doug made to help us all achieve such success.

Did Your Unit's Service Hours Get Recorded?
A service project is a special Good Turn that puts Scout spirit into action. Some Good Turns are big saving a life, helping out after floods or other disasters, recycling community trash, working on conservation projects. But Good Turns are often small, thoughtful acts helping a child cross a busy street, going to the store for an elderly neighbor, cutting back brush that is blocking a sign, doing something special for a brother or sister, or welcoming a new student to your school. Anyone can get involved in a Good Turn.  After your unit completes any service project (Scouting for Food is an example). Don't forget to log the hours on the Journey to Excellence website
