Looking Toward Palm Sunday - April 9, 2017

Sermon: In Life and In Death We Belong to God
Scripture:  Matthew 26:17-27:54

Robert Alexander will preach at 8:30 and 11:00 in the Sanctuary and 9:45 in Lingle Chapel.

This week we conclude our Lenten Theme "In Life and In Death We Belong to God." We ride with Jesus into Jerusalem knowing that Jesus rides to his death.  We marvel at his courage, his patience, and his love as he accepts the betrayal of friends, the judgment of the courts, the taunting of the crowds, the beating by the soldiers, the sentence of death by Pilot, and the nails of the executioner.  We wonder how someone could sustain so much without complaint and without struggle.  We struggle to feel the weight of that final breath.
Sunday's worship will be a reminder of the story of Jesus' final days through the words of Scripture, the images that are found there, and music that is reflective of the story.  A brief message will be preached following the readings and the music that will focus on the life of trust and faith that Jesus exemplified as he gave himself fully to the will and purpose of God.  How can we live our lives and give our lives with a similar kind of trust in the good news that "in life and in death we belong to God"?

The Geneva Choir will sing Behold the Lamb of God and O Come and Mourn with Genny Bosak as solo, at the 8:30 service.
The Chancel Choir will sing My Song is Love Unknown and  Behold the Savior of Mankind at the 11:00 service.

Join the Easter Band!
Only one more opportunity to rehearse with the Easter band: THIS SUNDAY  at 4:00 in the choir room. If you play a woodwind or brass instrument and would like to join in on the hymns for Easter Sunday, please come.
