The Greater Philadelphia Region's Gardens Cultivate Over $200M in Economic Impact

Greater Philadelphia Gardens (GPG) released a new report based on an analysis done by ESI  that demon strates the substantial enhancements in regional tourism and recreation stimulated  by public gardens, attracting an estimated 2.5 million visitors annually, and providing substant ial support to the local economy. The Philadelphia region has long been regarded as "America's Garden Capital" having more than 30 public gardens within a 30-mile radius. Thes e cherished p laces have supported more than 1,500 jobs--totaling $79 million in earnings, and generate $3.6 million per year in business, sales, and income tax revenue.  
 
GPG announced the results of the study during a press conference at Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's (PHS) annual Flower Show on Wednesday, March 15.

Stephen Mullin Spoke at ICSC University of Shopping Center s' Panel

ESI President and Principal, 
  Stephen P. Mullin  spoke at the  ICSC University  of Shopping Centers  Panel Discussion on The New Administration and the Industry on Tues day, March 7, 2017. Mr. Mullin joined the panel moderated by  John- David Franklin , Senior Vi ce President of Leasing Madison Marquette, with the following speakers:  G. Lamont Blackstone , Principal at G.L. Blackstone & Associates,  Gary R appaport , ICSC Past Chairman Chief Executive Officer, and  Todd H. Rollins , Senior Director of Northeast Investments T H Real Estate.  The format of the event was a series of questions targeting their backgrounds.

Lee Huang Presented at the IDA College Town Summit 

ESI Senior Vice President, L ee Huang , spoke on the "Universities as downtown partners: Managing complex relationships" panel for the IDA College Town Summit on March 29, in Tempe, Arizona. The su mmit drew about 100 professionals representing downtown organizations, universities, local governments, and economic development agencies. The panel included Ken Stapleton , fro m Ken Stapleton & Associates and Randy Ruttenberg , f rom Fairmount Properties . Lee co-presented with Ken and Randy on what happens when things go wrong in town/gown relations. They had a stimulating discussion that was organized around case studies of common problems and possible solutions.

Stephen P. Mullin spoke on the economic impact of cultural organizations at the Greater Philadelphia's Cultural Alliance's Community Briefing and Press Conference on Federal Arts Funding on April 6 at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA). At the event, Mr. Mullin said, "The arts must be considered part of large social impact, it's not concentrated in a small area."

Stephen P. Mullin joined the board of the Philadelphia Real Estate Council (PREC). Mr. Mullin also met with the State Department Delegation from Argentina and was a judge for the 2017 Villanova Real Estate Challenge. He was also quoted in  this Philly.com article, speaking on behalf of Elfreth's Alley and its history. 

Lee Huang recently joined the board of the Preservation Alliance. He also wrote the article, "How Neighborhoods Could Lose If Trump Succeeds in Rolling Back Bank Reforms," for Next City

ESI is pleased to announce that Lily Ho has joined the firm as our newest Research Analyst. Ms. Ho specializes in data visualization, cartographic design, and spatial analysis.

Prior to ESI, she worked as a Project Associate at American Communities Trust (ACT), a Baltimore based non-profit that works with partners to create inclusive economic development projects. At ACT, she managed its Baltimore Food Business Microloan Fund, and provided research assistance on the social and economic impacts of New Market Tax Credit funded projects.
