Below are some poems written by the Class of 2018 during their sophomore year. Ms. Clarke wanted to share them with our families. Through the rest of the school year
we will publish her favorite poems from last year.
Ode to the Sun

The sun is like a big yellow light bulb,
Shining brightly in the sky.
So radiant so bright, you bring us daylight.
You awake the daytime sleep,
From which we arise, when you set.
It's like the whole world is silent, just for the moment.
With your rays, like a kiss upon our cheeks,
Suddenly warms our hearts like a gift every day.
The warm glow you give off,
Caresses our bodies like a blanket.
But be careful, staying out too long,
May cause you to look like a tomato!
Ten Little Lines

Her hair was long as the waterfall.
When she pulled it back it was thick as a
water coat.
It smelled like the ocean breeze.
It looked as smooth as silk.
The long locks of her hair felt the way you
hear waves crashing into the rocks.
Her hair looked like Rapunzel's as she walked
through Corona with flowers in her hair.
Her hair was so long it couldn't help but get tangled up.
The darkness of the moon lit the night sky.
She used her hair to guide her back home.
Her hair comforted her when she was walking
in the darkness.
The beauty of her wet hair smelled of the ocean.
Ode to Sleep

I feel gravity tug at my body
As I sink into my bed.
My pillow is the tour guide
As I venture off into my dreams.
I see things out of this world.
In the morning, I will wake
To the smell of the morning dew,
The sound of birds chirping,
The taste of coffee upon my tongue.
Without sleep,
We could not appreciate the day to come.
Summer Afternoon

The sun is brighter than a forest fire.
It climbs to the top of the sky and burns the earth.
The air is warm and the stale like a dirty attic,
The dried grass turns to crumbs as I grab it.
The mirage on the sidewalk looks as if it is a puddle.
The summer adventure taste refreshing.
The sound of lawnmowers never ends.
Jumping into the lake feels like a breath of fresh air.
Summer peaches sweeter than Willy Wonka's' candy,
The sun was cool,
The repetition of sprinklers ticking of endless summer days,
Uncle Sam riding fireworks to the stars,
The heat wave patrols the streets and the cool shadows run,
Even the orange sun takes a rest as it falls through the earth.
Ode to My Basketball

Dribble and drop, what a ball hop
For you are so round, you make my heart proud.
You are so unique; you keep my body on fleet.
No one else comes before you.
Go here and there without a care.
I wish I could be more like you.
The season's almost here, so let's play!
My dear, your dribble is heaven,
And I am your angel,
Your net is gold, and I am the complete mold.

Bike, oh bike, you go so fast- like a train.
You get me so many places.
Bike, oh bike, you make me feel so important
When I ride. It's a feeling I never get.
Your amazing blue shocks look like the great blue sky,
How I adore your amazing color reminding me of a fire truck,
Your smooth decals are to die for,
The swishing sound the wind makes when I ride sounds like a deflating balloon.
I enjoy taking the dirt off-it's amazing to look at you clean!
My great red bike looks like Clifford the Big Red Dog.
I have great affection for what you do.
You always leave people with their jaw dropped,
So now you know how I adore you, my friend,
For you are my all. I will always, always ride and cherish you for you take me places.
