Celebrating Cesar Chavez

Our 3rd & 4th graders participate in the Cesar Chavez annual legacy celebration on Saturday, March 25. They will play    De Colores    on their ukuleles at COS to start the nonpartisan celebration of Cesar  Chavez   's birthday. Students are raising awareness of the event with the goal of increased attendance at the celebration.

Beginning at 9:00AM, revelers will gather at COS in the circle drive. At 10:00AM, a walk will begin to the Whittman Center (315 Pearl St, Visalia, CA 93291) where the celebration will continue. All are invited to attend this community event.   Download the event flyer for more information.

All SVA teachers have been given information about an essay contest for the event. Essays will be graded by the 3rd & 4th grade teachers and valuable prizes will be awarded to the winners in two categories (K-2 and 3-8). Winners will be announced at the Whittman Center on the day of the event.

Poetry & Prose

Our SVA poets all received Superior ratings at TCOE's Poetry  and  Prose  event this week. Cadance Spencer's original work Whole moved one judge to tears.

Congratulations go out to:
  • Cadence Spencer
  • Shellby Lara
  • Hana Dussan
  • Santiago and Samuel Casas
  • Rebekah Cantelmi and Zoe Silva
  • Grace Tovar and Nayely Reyes

Track & Field

The SVA track team has gotten off and running!  They did really well at their first meet at CVC.  Many of our SVA kids placed and others got their best times.

Wish our track team good luck at next week's meets: Tuesday  at the King's Invitational and Friday  at Sequoia Union.  Many, many thanks to Coach Andrew Ontiveros and his team of exceptional volunteers! We are truly lucky to have such dedication to our kids!

Jog-A-Thon Awards Week

This year's jog-a-thon brought in about $10,000 for SVA PTO.  Well done! That money goes directly to student enrichment like technology, TCOE ERS resources, sports, clubs and field trips! Top lap runners from each class dressed up their teachers in silly outfits, and 19 lucky raffle winners got to ride in a limo to go bowling with Mr. Benton on Wednesday

Many, many thanks to all of the volunteers who made the jog-a-thon possible!

Children's Art Classes

Arts Visalia, a local nonprofit organization, is holding children's art classes this spring.

Arts Visalia offers classes for both adults and children in their on-site classroom. Classes are designed for both beginners and more advanced students to explore their creativity, expand their technical skills and learn at their own pace. Small class sizes provide a hands-on experience that encourages artistic engagement with instructors and fellow students.

To enroll your child, please fill out the enrollment form and return it to Arts Visalia. Class sizes are limited with enrollment on a first-come first-served basis. To guarantee a place in a class, tuition must be paid at the time of enrollment.
