Virginia State University, founded in 1882, is one of Virginia's two land-grant institutions, and is located 20 minutes south of Richmond in the Village of Ettrick. With a current student population of 5,000, the university sits atop a rolling landscape overlooking the Appomattox River with expansive views of the City of Petersburg. The 236-acre campus has 16 dormitories, 17 academic buildings and 416-acre agriculture research facility.

 


Study: Virginia's Gateway Region among Best in the Nation

CHESTERFIELD - A 10-year evaluation of Virginia's Gateway Region has found that the economic development group is among the best in the nation.

Sustained Impact of Boston, Massachusetts, an independent evaluator fully funded by the Cameron Foundation recently completed the study. The in-depth study was conducted to thoroughly examine VGR's practices and procedures and construct a benchmark of the organization's effects on economic development compared to other economic development groups across the nation.

The study stated that VGR had "undergone dramatic transformation over the past decade" effectively becoming a global outreach vehicle for the region. The International Economic Development Council, the largest global non-profit membership organization of its kind based out of Washington, D.C., has developed the most widely accepted standard of best practice guidelines for the industry. The Sustained Impact study determined that VGR has utilized many of these practices.
VSU Wins Best Business Program, President Abdullah Named HBCU Male President of the Year

On Friday, July 15, Virginia State University (VSU) did it again! VSU was the recipient of two 2017 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Awards during the 2017 HBCU Awards ceremony presented by the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. VSU President Makola M. Abdullah was named the 2017 HBCU Male President of the Year.  Also, the University's Reginald F. Lewis College of Business was named the HBCU Best Business Program.
