The Board will: receive monthly consent agenda items that they will review and vote on; receive an update on Grading and K-6 Report Card; vote to certify the 2017 bond election results; receive the bond financing plan and resolution and vote on first and second reading of Board policies. 12th Annual Boise Rotary Century Scholars Program, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Boise State University, Jordan Ballroom, honoring Boise's top 100 graduating seniors. During the evening, an invited audience of hundreds will gather to applaud the accomplishments of the top 100 graduating seniors, the Century Scholars, from Boise's public and non-public high schools. High achieving students from Bishop Kelly, Boise, Borah, Capital, Frank Church, Riverstone, Sage and Timberline high schools will be profiled and honored by family, friends and representatives of our community's business, government, civic, education and service sectors. Local news media representatives are invited to cover this event.

Timberline High's TREE Club is hosting a Science Showcase on April 13th from 5:30-8 pm in the cafeteria and just outside, weather permitting. "We'll have inspirational science speakers and hands-on activities from a couple dozen science related groups & individuals throughout the Treasure Valley," said Dick Jordan, organizer and retired Timberline Science Teacher. Participating organizations/individuals include: the World Center for Birds of Prey, Aquarium of Boise, Snow School, various businesses, EMT's, engineers, veterinarians, the Discover Center, Botanical Gardens, Zoo Boise, not to mention all the starfish, raptors, rocks, bugs, snakes, fossils, solar panels, plants, computers for coding and amazing demonstrations from the BSU Chemistry & Physics Clubs. "We're trying to shine a very bright light on science and show the world how it touches our lives in every imaginable way," added Jordan.

Each year Boise, the "City of Trees", celebrates Arbor Day by planting a tree at a Boise elementary school. This year, Maple Grove Elementary School, 2800 S. Maple Grove Rd., Boise, has been chosen to be the site of the Arbor Day Celebration by the City of Boise. A school-wide assembly will be held at 1:00 p.m. and then at 2:00 p.m. Boise Mayor Dave Bieter will join with City of Boise forestry officials to plant a tree on the school campus. Capital High School's 13th Annual Academic Assembly, 9:20 a.m. to 10:20 a.m., gymnasium, 8055 W. Goddard, Boise. The theme of this year's Academic Assembly is Global Thinkers.

April 21:
An innovative Idaho school-based cancer prevention education program will be on display for members of the local news media to cover and experience at Fairmont Junior High School, 2121 N. Cole Rd., Boise. The program,
Healthy Habits, Healthy U,
was developed in collaboration with St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute, Boise State University and Boise School District.
Since 2014, over 6,000 4th and 8th grade students have participated in HHHU. Currently all eight junior high schools and 10 elementary schools in the Boise School District are participating in HHHU during the 2016-17 academic year.
On Friday, April 21st, Fairmont Health Teacher Cassie Tipton will lead her students through a lesson plan focused on the positive connection between increased physical activity, healthy food and beverage choices and reduced cancer risks.
St. Luke's Pathology Department provides students with a unique opportunity by donating cancerous and noncancerous tissue samples for the students to examine in small groups. Boise State University students and MSTI staff will guide the unique hands-on activity in which students examine cancerous and non-cancerous organ tissue samples. This small group activity aids the student's understanding of how health habits can impact organ function and increase cancer risks.
Note: Members of the local news media are invited to visit any of Ms. Tipton's following Health classes (please check-in at main school office upon arrival). Officials from St. Luke's MSTI, and undergraduate student interns from Boise State University wil be on hand for interviews, as will Ms. Tipton and some of her students.

Special Announcement Regarding Public Sale of Bonds:
The Boise School Disrtict believes it is important to provide District residents with the opportunity to buy the District's recently approved bonds. To facilitate this local bond sale effort, the District has directed its underwriter, Piper Jaffray, to schedule a special RETAIL ORDER PERIOD as part of the bond sale and to make local retail orders the highest priority when allocating the bonds to investors.

Borah Student's Art Design Selected for ACHD Sweeper:
Borah High School sophomore Amber Robison's graphic art design has been selected to appear on one of Ada County Highway District's sweeper trucks (see adjacent photo) as part of ACHD's Sweeper Art Contest. A total of 65 entries were received and the five art designs selected were created by Boise School District students (see list below):

he ACHD Sweeping Program is an integral part of keeping our streets and the environment clean. ACHD's sweeping crew has 22 sweepers that operate year round removing leaves, dirt,
litter and debris from the streets. If debris isn't cleaned off the roadway it has the potential to enter into the storm drain system, polluting our streams and rivers.
Dennis Career Tech Center Student Wins Contest: Olivia Tocher, (pictured) a 12th grade Graphic Design student enrolled at the Dennis Career Technical Education Center, has won the Idaho Skills USA T-Shirt Art Design Contest. Her artwork features the State of Idaho and many of the popular features about living and working in the Gem State. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce by providing career and technical educational programs, events, and competitions. Careers in: electronics, auto and diesel technology, collision repair, information and media technologies, welding, machining, construction, and many more.

Timberline Senior Serving as Idaho FCCLA State President:
Kassidi Peterson (pictured), Timberline senior, is wrapping up her year serving as Idaho FCCLA State President. Timberline Family and Consumer Science Teacher Patches Moats says Kassidi "has represented the Boise School District with integrity, responsibility, dependability and joy." "She's the truest example of student leadership." Asked to reflect on her year of service, Kassidi had this to share: "
I'd say Idaho Family Career and Community Leaders of America has given me the ability and opportunity to expand my leadership. I've been able to work closely with students around the state and teach them leadership skills I developed through my own experiences in FCCLA. This has given me the confidence to speak in front of people, sharing my ideas and thoughts, to better our lives today and the world tomorrow."
FCCLA, short for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is a cocurricular organization that aims to help youth in public and private schools with family bonds, careers, and participation in the community.
Timberline Quadrant Student Musicians Recognized: The following Timberline Quadrant Band students recently participated in the District III Solo festival at BSU and received Superior ratings from the judges, finishing 1st or 2nd in each category, which automatically qualifies them for the state solo competition at Post Falls High School in early May.

- Sebastian Houk, trumpet - 1st place - THS 12th grade
- Emma Charlier, marimba - 1st place - THS 11th grade

East Junior High School Students Recognized: The following music students from East Junior High School were recently recognized:
- Four East Band students auditioned for and were selected to take part in the All-State conference Band back in November. Minjun Kwak, Josh Dittrich, JeongHyun Chae and Yewon Chu all auditioned and were selected out of all high school musicians in Idaho.
- JeongHyun Chae was also selected to take part in the All-Northwest Clinic Band this past February. He was selected from all 9-12 graders in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Wyoming.
- Minjun Kwak will be featured with the Meridian Symphony as the winner of their Young Artist Competition. He will be a featured alto saxophone soloist and will be accompanied by the Meridian Symphony. That performance is on Saturday, April 22nd at 7:30 at the Centennial High School Performing Arts Center.

Now Open: SUEZ Student Water Conservation Video Contest:
This fun and important contest is open to any student in the Boise School District enrolled in grades 9-12. Individuals or teams create one video commercial promoting water conservation submitted in both a 25-seconds length and 10-seconds length. Frist, second and third place entries will air on local television stations during the summer water conservation season. The first place spot will also air on Idaho Public Television (IPTV. The winner(s) will be invited to the IPTV editing room and will be highlighted in their monthly magazine, Channels.
